OK, so the time has come. Nobody follows my blog, so I have to fire the big guns (or rather big boobs) in a last-ditch resort for saving my blogger career. So here we go. Let me present you a video with naked chicks.

And seriously... This is a brilliant song by Fatboy Slim's The Brighton Port Authority, featuring the one and only David Byrne, whose distinct vocals and nonchalant delivery fit perfectly with the lighthearted melody and the funny video.

And speaking of the video - yes, there are naked chicks in it. But all the fun parts are covered with censor boxes. I am sure it required a huge amount of editing, as it has been done in a very funny and creative way. It is not very often, when you can see censorship actually adding some value to the censored material. Absolutely brilliant. Just watch it for yourself. Oh, and the guy behind the video is the acclaimed music video director Keith Schofield.

I just want you to see this video, because it is absolutely brilliant - creative and funny. Musically it is also worth noting, if one is into electro, as it illustrates a single from the debut EP of the band AutoKratz, but it definitely stands out because of the video, directed by Laurie Thinot. The video is a parody of infographic with charts changing to the beat of the track. It was presented in 2009 at Saatchi & Saatchi's New Directors Showcase - a part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

One more lucky find. It was posted on the channel presenting short films, which it is indeed. But at the same time this is a video to a song by a New Zealandish band The Phoenix Foundation. I've never heard of them, but judging from this song, this is a mistake I have to correct as soon as possible.

This is a truly brilliant video, combining very original animation with perfectly corresponding music. It was directed (or in this case rather "made") by Reuben Sutherland, a visual artist specialising in mixing up live action and animation.

And the music is also original. I guess it could be labeled "post rock", but it wouldn't do justice to this great piece. This is a combination of atmospheric instrumental rock fueled by prominent guitars with electronic sounds straight out of Jean-Michel Jarre's most "cosmic" tunes. The result is something I would call "space rock".

I ran into this video by chance, as this form of art is not my main field of interest. This is a recorded live performance of the act ElettroVoce Duo, comprising of Agata Zubel (voice) and Cezary Duchnowski (computer). And Agata Zubel herself is supposedly a young but already renown Polish vocalist and composer of contemporary academic music. And you just have to hear what she can do with her voice.

That's not something I would call "music", as it obviously does not qualify for repeated listening. But judged on its own merits, as an artistic performance showing technical prowess, insane command of the voice and infinite imagination and creativity in finding new ways of expression and stretching the boundaries of what is humanely possible to do with the voice - it is absolutely brilliant to watch.

This is a really surprisingly good minialbum from the Polish band Obsessions. I know nothing about them except that supposedly this is a side project of the three musicians connected with another Polish act The Black Tapes. They claim they play punk rock, but in my humble opinion this is just a straightforward rock. It is uptempo and loud, definitely influenced by punk, but lacking punkish aggressiveness. Anyhow, they are good. They know how to play, the songs are well recorded, riffs are great, vocal lines are catchy, the singer's singing manner is adequately slovenly. No genre bending here - pure rock at its best. So keep rocking, boys - it is nice to hear such classic approach for a change.

The album has been released on vinyl only (sic!) by the Antena Krzyku label and you cannot officially download it in any digital format. You can buy a vinyl in some online stores for around 7 euros (serpent.pl, seeyousoon.pl). But you have to act fast, as only 250 records have been made. You can also listen to the full album online on Bandcamp, but downloads are switched off. Of course, it is possible to download it anyhow in Bandcamp's preview quality (mp3 @ 128 kbit). No option to pay the artist this way, though. What a pity.

More classical album than other Pan:core's recordings. It mostly comprises of simple but beautiful melodies played on piano / keyboard with electronic background. A very melancholic album. And it includes another stunning electronic cover of a classical tune - this time a piece from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons (17 - spaetsommer). Pan:core's covers are masterpieces.

As to the rest of the album, it is very good, but I prefer his more electronic and experimental side, as on No Way To Win. He's a true master of this genre. It becomes clear after listening this album to the end, because the last track is completely different from the rest - it's not a simple piano tune, but hard electronic experimental madness. ;-) I instantly felt sorry that not all 18 tracks were in this style.

And a final remark - I like both sides of Pan:core - simple piano pieces and experimental electronic madness, so I don't mind mixing them on one album. But I'm afraid that for some listeners, who like only straightforward music, the ending of this album would be unbearable and could ruin all the fun they had from listening to this record.

Osrodek praktyk teatralnych "Gardzienice" (Centre for Theatre Practices "Gardzienice") was founded in 1977 by Włodzimierz Staniewski, and formally registered in 1978. The name comes from the village where the theatre is located. The group gained international critical acclaim, and is classified as an experimental anthropological theater. In 1997 the association established the Academy for Theatre Practices. This carries out numerous projects: research, arts, music, and cultural investigation into the humanities.

Orkiestra antyczna (The Ancient Orchestra) was a scientific project directed by Tomasz Rodowicz and Maciej Rychły, focused on reconstruction of music of ancient Greece and Rome, conducted in cooperation with musicologists. The reconstructed music was then played and recorded by the theatre's musical ensemble. This CD record accompanied the Polish edition of the book Music in Ancient Greece and Rome by John Landels. The book (and so the CD) is currently out-of-print.

Projects like this one are highly controversial among the scholars, as well as "classical" music critics and fans, because the sources from which we can learn about works, practices and instruments of ancient music are not even scarce - they are almost non-existent. And I mean it - just to give you some perspective, we are talking here about building instruments, which nobody have touched for 2 thousand years, on the basis of pictures found on ancient ceramic vessels. Or "reconstructing" songs upon seven and a half words and not many more musical notes found on a broken stone slab (like it is with the track no. 13: "Hode Galatan Ares"). The painful truth is that nobody knows how these notes have been sung and how this music sounded. Therefore, maybe it would be more proper to call such efforts "artistic interpretation" rather than "scientific reconstruction".

Some may say I'm a little bit too harsh, not respecting hard work of these researchers. That is not true. I have great esteem for them. But let's be reasonable. Just imagine that in two thousand years some future civilization will play Beethoven's For Elise on a "piano" built from this illustration, after "reconstructing" the piece on the basis of a few random bars coming from the burnt score and a review from a magazine. It may be a great work, but do you think it will sound anything like the composition that I linked above? No way.

So is this album a disappointment? Not at all! All I say is - let's not treat it like a definitive recording of ancient music, but rather as a suggestion: it might have sounded like that.

So how is it, when judged on its own merits? Brilliant. Astounding. Breathtaking. Mesmerizing. I have to stop right now, because I'm running out of adjectives. You're lucky you're reading me in English, because in Polish I'd go on like this for several more pages. Each of these songs is so powerful, hypnotic, full of emotions that you are immediately carried away by the procession of ancient Greeks. You can only hope you won't end up offered as a sacrifice to Greek gods.

So all this long introduction was to prepare you for what I am about to write now: I don't give a fuck if this is true ancient music or just a new-age'y / folky imitation. This is a masterpiece of Music. Who cares for labels. Let's just listen to this awesome record and praise ingenious people that created it.

I have to end with a small disclaimer. Due to high originality and uniqueness of this music, this record is of course not for everyone. For the majority of pop/rock oriented public it would be probably just a cacophony. But if only you have open mind (and ears) for sonic experiments and you are not afraid of new musical experiences and unusual sounds, I am sure you will be delighted.

Support artists, not recording industry
Pay the artists directly. They do not profit from CD sales. If you buy brand new mainstream albums in regular record stores (no matter whether online or offline, CDs or downloads), almost all the money goes to the recording industry mafia and is later used for committing crimes such as unlawful harassment of fans and bribing authorities to implement changes in law, which would infringe basic human rights. If you really want to support mainstream artists (and you should, if you love their music!), go to concerts or buy merchandise off the official websites.

If you can afford buying music, but it is not possible to pay a particular artist without a mafia tribute, consider supporting some independent artists instead. You can find many great acts on such websites as magnatune.com, jamendo.com, cdbaby.com, bandcamp.com, megatotal.pl. Supporting independent artists helps fight the recording industry mafia.

As you can see in the EAC log, the person that ripped this CD used a wrong offset setting: "Combined read/write offset correction" is set to "0", what probably means there are some missing samples (but note that it does not mean these differences are audible - it just means the copy is not formally "exact"). I carefully listened to this rip and I heard no audible ripping errors. Further, bear in mind that this CD is no longer available.

The read mode line should usually say "disable cache", but it may say "NO disable cache" for drives that do not cache data.

the classical sample in 'cant stop' IS NOT ripped from try^d.
track 4 is a little 'hello' to black era - an amazing triphop-combo from italy, which you can find also on jamendo.
This is a very diverse recording. Each track is completely different from the others. Some are calm and hypnotic, some are noisy and aggressive, almost industrial. They have only two things in common. They all belong to the genre of electronica and they are all great. Each melody is very original and artful. The album is under half an hour but has more bright ideas than whole discographies of some other artists. ;-)

Brilliant dark experimental electronica. Thank you, pan:core. At first I didn't like the cover of "Moonlight Sonata", because of the hip-hop beats in the background. But the ending is so powerful and haunting that I had to revise my opinion. The only track I still don't like is "Intro" - it is just tiring, ugly and, in the first place, doesn't fit the rest of the album. It's like a mole on a beautiful face.

Maria Peszek is a highly acclaimed Polish singer/songwriter. She is considered to be controversial, especially by right-wing retards and tabloids, because she is not afraid to openly discuss - both in lyrics to her songs and in interviews - themes such as sex, faith, patriotism and mental diseases. Each of her three albums was a commercial success, at the same time being praised by the critics and receiving many awards in her native Poland. She sings exclusively in Polish.

Maria Awaria (Maria the Failure) is a loose concept album about sex, love and femininity. All lyrics are in Polish and they are really good, witty and powerful, being an important factor in making these songs as awesome as they are. Therefore, this album may not appeal to non-Polish speaking public, as some tracks are built around lyrics with musical background playing only a small part ("Milosc w systemie Dolby Surround", "Reks", "Ladne slowa to").

Nevertheless, I still encourage you to check this album out, because many other tracks are brilliant from the musical side too (e.g. "Rosol", "Hujawiak", "Maria Awaria", "Muchomory"). From the musical perspective this is a pop (or pop rock) record, with some jazz and modern electronica influences. The album is masterfully produced by one of the best Polish producers and electronica composers, Andrzej Smolik, so the said musical background is full of pleasant surprises on many occasions. Many of Peszek's vocal lines are catchy as hell too and should be enjoyable even without understanding of her lyrics.
<blockquote style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Maria Awaria To zdecydowanie najbardziej kobieca i erotyczna płyta na polskim rynku od czasów... Hmmm...

Zachęca kochanka do lizania, solenia i miętolenia swego drobnego ciała.

Szczerze polecam!

Thank's for....everything!

This record is one of his best. It's a great mixture of electronica, rock, jazz, even some traces of industrial. All is perfectly blended and flawlessly produced. It's simply a true feast for the ears. The music is beautiful, intelligent, original, surprising - everything is perfect on this album. I have only two complaints: first of all - IT'S TOO SHORT!!!!! ;-). And secondly, I don't like long tracks. And this one could have been cut very easily, as it comprises of several different tunes. Of course I don't mean putting silence between them - they are perfectly combined and it is great, but each tune could be just put in his own track. It would be easy to find one's favourite part, repeat them, compare different melodies and so on.

Oh, and I love the cover - very funny and perfectly corresponds with the mood of this album. But this is also usual with Abogix - covers of his albums are always great.

PS. Why on earth I wrote all the above? I could just write: "Just another album from Abogix." and everything would be perfectly clear. ;-)

I have mixed feelings after listening to this album. Thierry de Massia is definitely a talented composer. In fact he even can be compared to Beethoven. Like his famous predecessor, he's talented but he must be completely deaf. These cheap synthetic sounds imitate real instruments so poorly that ugliness of the sound kills any fun one could have from listening to nice melodies. In my opinion, Mr. de Massia should limit himself to composing only and give his score to a real band or to a person who is properly equipped and knows how to use synthesizers.

As for the tunes, some tracks bear classical influences ("Un signe", "Tales of mister frog", "Shift"). They have very simple melodies, as if composed for children, but could be quite nice if not for those synthetic sounds. In their current form they are practically unlistenable. The other half of songs sounds like transferred directly from the '80s ("La chanson de Julie", "RailRoad", "Jet Set"), straight from the recording session of Jean Michel Jarre. So these tracks are extremely unoriginal, but on the other hand, imitation is almost perfect. In fact "RailRoad" could be advertised as unpublished Jarre's tune from the '80s and I think everybody would believe it. And in these electronic tunes the artist does not try to imitate the classical orchestra and therefore ugly synthetic sounds can be tolerated (in fact they even give this "old '80s" feeling that can be treated as done on purpose). So this part of the album is quite nice if one is not bothered with lack of originality.

Looking for good techno/electronica? Look no further. This album should appeal to people who like a bit more experimental side of techno. There are no simple beats, it's not a shallow record for disco fans. Many strange sounds connected in a clever and original way. Keep up the good work, Sound-Ra. Oh, and another great cover (I rate only music, but it's a nice addition).

The only complaint that I have regards sound distribution between channels. A hi-hat banging constantly in the right ear can be really annoying (see the first track or no. 05 - Fever).

However, these are old and rusty songs made late 90's or in other words 10 years ago. About same time as the two previously published: TeddyBear Trilogee and Ambience Session. It's not pure ambient. At least it's not so simple and quiet as typical ambient tunes are. Nevertheless it's a very very good album. It's not rusty at all, but colorful and brilliant.

Therapy? is an outstanding hard rock / metal band from Ireland. Influenced by such stylistically diverse bands as Black Sabbath or Hüsker Dü they managed to build their own distinct sound, based on a wall of noise constructed from loud guitars and powerful drums on the one hand and melodic vocal lines, catchy tunes and clever emotional lyrics passionately delivered by the singer Andy Cairns on the other hand.

A concert bootleg is probably not the very best start if you do not know Therapy? yet, in which case I encourage you to check out the albums Troublegum and Infernal Love, but should be interesting for every fan of this great band. The highlights of this album are rare songs Auto Surgery and Totally Random Man coming from an early EP, a poem by A.A. Milne sang a capella, a crazy cover of the Black Sabbath's Iron Man with the changed lyrics, an early version of Me Vs. You - again with different lyrics and finally extended Lunacy Booth with an insane speech of Andy Cairns.

This release of the 1994 Firenze concert has been compiled from two separate sources:

1. "Shock Treatment" [bootleg CD, Octopus Octo 010]
2. "Iron Man" [bootleg CD, On Stage Records CD/ON2339]

The first source had inferior sound quality, but it included 2 more songs. The second source had two songs missing (Isolation and Nowhere), but its sound quality was better and it included longer breaks between several songs.

The creator of hundreds of spirited, extroverted instrumental works, Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi is widely recognized as the master of the Baroque instrumental concerto, which he perfected and popularized more than any of his contemporaries. Vivaldi's kinetic rhythms, fluid melodies, bright instrumental effects, and extensions of instrumental technique make his some of the most enjoyable of Baroque music. [Read more --->]

The National University Library in Turin houses several extremely important musical collections. Among these are those of Mauro Foa and Renzo Giordano, containing over 450 manuscripts of Vivaldi, many of them autographs. With the purpose of exploring this immense heritage and bringing to life many unpublished works, the Instituto per i Beni Musicali in Piemonte and Naïve [Opus 111] with the collaboration of the Library in Turin, have undertaken to record a complete edition on CD of Vivaldi scores held in Turin. [CD notes]

Gloriously alert and full-bodied playing produces a disc that is just waiting to be enjoyed... The music is unmistakably Vivaldi, of course, but ranges from brilliant violin figuration to creamy slow-drawn chords, and from vocal transcriptions to short fugues (and what enjoyable fugues, too!). The cumulative effect of it all is like visiting a workshop and finding there examples of all the things an artist might do when freed from the demands of a particular public. Concerto Italiano’s performances cannot be faulted. Alessandrini has a knack for vital and exciting music-making that is utterly straightforward and free from overworked mannerism. It is a difficult balance to achieve, but here it is allied to playing that is gloriously alert and full-bodied. This disc is just waiting to be enjoyed, so go on – it might bring you closer to Vivaldi as well! [Lindsay Kemp, GRAMOPHONE]

Disclaimer: As you can see in the EAC log, the disc has been ripped without offset correction. After correcting the offset, AccurateRip and CueTools databases recognize the disc as accurately ripped with confidence 20+.

The read mode line should usually say "disable cache", but it may say "NO disable cache" for drives that do not cache data.

Please note that auCDtect reports one track on this album as based on a lossy audio source. This is not my rip, so I cannot guarantee anything, but I strongly believe it has to be a false positive. I doubt anybody would bother to deliberately substitute one track with its lossy version on a classical CD. Further, frequency analysis shows there is no frequency cut-off on this track. Finally, the track is reported as "accurately ripped" by both CTDB and AR databases.

Therapy? is an outstanding hard rock / metal band from Ireland.

<blockquote style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
The final vocal line on Infernal Love might be "There is a light at the end of the tunnel," but there's no denying that Infernal Love is anything but optimistic; it's an unrelentingly dark and sometimes bluntly turgid record. Anyone familiar with the band had grown accustomed to Andy Cairns' spins on depression, anger, bitterness, and self-destruction, but even the most devoted listener probably screamed "Snap out of it!" while first listening to this third record. Darker chords and slower tempos prevail, and the pop-punk hooks are all but washed away. The sequentially buried, bouncing "Loose" is an anomaly, sounding like a refugee from Troublegum that reads like a dystopian "Jack and Diane." Other than that, it's nothing but despair and heartache. [Read more --->]

Disclaimer: As you can see in the EAC log, the person that ripped this CD used some settings that make "secure mode" much less secure: use of C2 pointers, use of cache, 1-pass rip (no test). Further, "Combined read/write offset correction" set to "0" probably means there are some missing samples (but it does not mean these differences are audible - it just means the copy is not "exact"). I carefully listened to this rip and I heard no audible ripping errors. CUETools database contains 4 different pressings of this album and all the checksums are different to this rip. I suppose it means this release is from another pressing (or maybe it's the result of the wrong offset set in EAC?).

Therapy? is an outstanding hard rock / metal band from Ireland. Influenced by such stylistically diverse bands as Black Sabbath or Hüsker Dü they managed to build their own distinct sound, based on a wall of noise constructed from loud guitars and powerful drums on the one hand and melodic vocal lines, catchy tunes and clever emotional lyrics delivered by the singer Andy Cairns on the other hand.

"Lonely, Cryin', Only" comes from the Semi-Detached album and it was released on A&M Records on May 18, 1998. This single reached number 32 in the UK Singles Chart.

Semi-Detached is not the best album by Therapy? and "Lonely, Cryin', Only" is not the best song on this album. Still, it leaves many contemporary rockers' efforts behind. But forget the single track - you can find it on the regular album, anyhow. The B-Side tracks are much more interesting and should be more than enough for a fan to get this single. "High Noon" is a cover of the song by DJ Shadow, a prominent DJ and electronic music artist. It sounds like a typical Therapy?'s song, while still being faithful to the original and catchy as hell. Brilliant work. The remaining two songs are reworked versions of their past masterpieces, so they should be interesting for fans as well.
