Bad bad bad (2/10)
Another miss. And no progress since "Ultime cri". Unfortunately... The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 encoding format. |

Sylmer - "Ultime cri"
Lousy vocals ruin everything (2/10)

What can I say... It's better than "Originaire", but still bad. The same weaknesses as before. Oh, I like the cover photo.

Sylmer - "Originaire"
Beware (1/10)

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Lousy voice, terrible drums, uninteresting melodies. Guitar is quite good, but all is wasted because of badness of other elements. Poor production tops it off, but the biggest problem is lack of vocal and arranging talent. Maybe the lyrics are impressive? I don't know it, because I can't speak French.

TAT - "Quinta Essentia"
Good gothic album (7/10)
Lacrimosa meets Dead Can Dance meets Einsturzende Neubauten - these are the first associations that came to my mind after listening to this album. But TAT is still quite original. For example, use of a classical guitar gives a very interesting effect. Dark ghotic tunes - very haunting. The only downside is the terrible French accent in English songs.

Sans Bagage - "Tant pis pour la lune"
Mostly boring tunes... Easy to listen, easy to forget... (6/10)
Definitely better than their previous album. Professionally played, sang and produced, but still lacks the main feature of good poprock albums - catchy melodies (although one can see a development here). Easy to listen, easy to forget. [mirror @ archive.org] | [Myspace]

Sans Bagage - "Sans Bagage"
Boring tunes... Easy to listen, easy to forget... (5/10)
Professionally played, sang and produced, but lacks the main feature of good poprock albums - catchy melodies. The songs are just boring, unoriginal and banal. Easy to listen, easy to forget. [mirror @ archive.org] | [Myspace]

Narcis - "Shining"
Quite good mixture of grunge, punk, metal & pure rock (6/10)
Quite good tunes. One thing I didn't like much, were vocals, especially on track no. 2, which is almost unlistenable. But all the others are definitely worth listening. I would especially recommend tracks 01 (really great riff here) & 08 (instrumental, with a catchy semi-oriental melody).

31 fevrier..., le - "Vous penetrez dans une piece dont les murs sont couverts de circuits et d'ecrans de controle divers"
Mediocre achievement (5/10)
Good technical skills are not always connected with a composing talent. The tunes on this album are just average - the band plays exactly the same as thousands other nu-metal bands nowadays. So the result is rather boring, because you are not surprised with anything. A solid work without the soul. I also have to mention drums, which are particularly bad, with overwhelming annoying hi-hat in front. Yuck! Slightly better than average: 1 Bonanza 2 Koto le satellite 6 Z.2 (this one is only a small electronic interlude - but a surprisingly good one) |

Baiki - "Do It Yourself"
A promising act - check it out if you like folk rock (6/10)
This is quite an interesting work, blending rock, pop rock and folk rock, based on heavy use of acoustic instruments, with the singer trying to sing in four different languages. I do not know if it was such a good idea, because I have the impression that because of lack of language skills his performance is much weaker than it could be. This is definitely true with my native Polish, but Spanish also sounds very unconvincing, as if he had much trouble with proper pronunciation. Nevertheless, it is a promising act, with a potential to grow. For the time being some tracks lack good melodies, the others have them too obvious and simple. The ugly cover of the Polish folk standard "Sokoly" shows clearly that they should work much much harder on their arrangements and ability to transmit musical energy through their recordings. Still, I listened to this album with interest and I put them on my watchlist, hoping they will improve. Check them out if you like folk rock. |

Celibatfighters - "Remise en ordre"
Lack of interesting melodies, too eclectic (5/10)
I was not too pleased with this recording. It lacks interesting melodies and is too eclectic. Eclecticism must not be a bad thing, but only if it is a planned action. Eclecticism on this album seems to be a result of a coincidence: "we somehow succeeded in composing some songs, so here they are". Also technical skills and quality of recording of some of these tunes are questionable (e.g. 03 Qu'est ce qui m'arrive?). Only two tracks are better than average: 1 Aller simple - a very dark and moody tune with an interesting melody; 10 Bande a part - a light acoustic guitar song with a funny melody. Celibatfighters - "Grande erreur, la"
Very amateurish rock (4/10)
Very amateurish rock album. The best song is no. 4 Humanité, which has really nice melody and if it was not played and recorded so poorly, would be very successful. Nevertheless, it is still good, compared with the rest. Their album "Remise en ordre" is far better. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. |

Residus Plasmiques, les - "Vie sexuelle des bonbons meles, la"
Boring rock (4/10)
I don't know French - maybe lyrics on this album would save the day. But as far as the music is concerned, this recording is simple boring rock without any interesting features that could catch the listerener's attention. The band knows how to play, but nothing more. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. [Artist's website] |

Residus Plasmiques, les - "Une journee de trop a l'ecole"
Not attractive (5/10)
I don't know how funny lyrics are, but music is definitely not appealing. They should work hard on attractiveness of their music. But if the albums are placed chronologically, a small progress can be seen. Still, it's a long way to the top if they wanna rock'n'roll... ;-) |

Residus Plasmiques, les - "Residus Plasmiques massacrent l'Halloween, les"

A good satirical song should be also attractive as a musical piece. These tunes lack any attractiveness. [Artist's website] |

TriFace - "3 Saucisses Dans Une Bulle"
A little better than the first album (6/10)
This album is a little better than the first one, but most of the tracks still lack any features that could make them truly memorable. They are nothing more than regular fast and loud rock songs, like so many others being recorded each day. The only tune that stands out of the crowd is "02 - New Bitch". |
