Piano + electronica + beautiful melodies (9/10) auf diesem album habe ich eine auswahl an tracks zusammengestellt, die ich im laufe der letzten jahre gemacht habe. jeder einzelne von ihnen hat für mich eine persönliche bedeutung. die klangqualität ist eher mittelmäszig und das mixing ist wirklich nicht so gut - und dennoch; ich mag es sehr. vielleicht kann euch das eine oder andere stück berühren. More classical album than other Pan:core's recordings. It mostly comprises of simple but beautiful melodies played on piano / keyboard with electronic background. A very melancholic album. And it includes another stunning electronic cover of a classical tune - this time a piece from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons (17 - spaetsommer). Pan:core's covers are masterpieces. As to the rest of the album, it is very good, but I prefer his more electronic and experimental side, as on No Way To Win. He's a true master of this genre. It becomes clear after listening this album to the end, because the last track is completely different from the rest - it's not a simple piano tune, but hard electronic experimental madness. ;-) I instantly felt sorry that not all 18 tracks were in this style. And a final remark - I like both sides of Pan:core - simple piano pieces and experimental electronic madness, so I don't mind mixing them on one album. But I'm afraid that for some listeners, who like only straightforward music, the ending of this album would be unbearable and could ruin all the fun they had from listening to this record.

Pan:core - "No Way To Win"

Brilliant diverse electronica (10/10) this is my first 'more than 8 tracks' album. the tracks are of different type. i think, i dont want to keep a style forever, if you know what i mean. the classical sample in 'cant stop' IS NOT ripped from try^d. track 4 is a little 'hello' to black era - an amazing triphop-combo from italy, which you can find also on jamendo. their track 'in front of the corner' inspired me somehow, as you can see at the name of my album :) enjoy. :) This is a very diverse recording. Each track is completely different from the others. Some are calm and hypnotic, some are noisy and aggressive, almost industrial. They have only two things in common. They all belong to the genre of electronica and they are all great. Each melody is very original and artful. The album is under half an hour but has more bright ideas than whole discographies of some other artists. ;-) You can also download this album for free directly from the artist at his website in .mp3 file format.

Brilliant dark experimental electronica (9/10) If you like my music, i would be happy to read some nice words on a postcard. just send it to maik sommer – hechtstr.47 – 01097 – dresden – germany enjoy. Brilliant dark experimental electronica. Thank you, pan:core. At first I didn't like the cover of "Moonlight Sonata", because of the hip-hop beats in the background. But the ending is so powerful and haunting that I had to revise my opinion. The only track I still don't like is "Intro" - it is just tiring, ugly and, in the first place, doesn't fit the rest of the album. It's like a mole on a beautiful face. Akusto, Ben - "Disturbance"

Great electronica (9/10) Rare "Golden Oldies" saved from c-casettes, dat-tapes and old harddrives. Just counterplay it very loud next time your neighbour downstairs is banging the roof with the broom. However, these are old and rusty songs made late 90's or in other words 10 years ago. About same time as the two previously published: TeddyBear Trilogee and Ambience Session. I just didn't dare to mix&master any track anyhow (except the Camel Boost just a little bit) - so don't expect too high quality and don't ruin your hi-fi stack. I still hope you like what you hear. It's not pure ambient. At least it's not so simple and quiet as typical ambient tunes are. Nevertheless it's a very very good album. It's not rusty at all, but colorful and brilliant. DJ Blackwidow - "North Star"

Very good, creative electronica (9/10) This album was composed January 2006 - August 2006. I was on a creative high after finishing up the BlackJaq CD with my collaborator. I really went into this CD with an idea to create a more straightforward electronica sound. I kept some of the ethnic influences and added elements of space music and chanting (listen for Catholic and Ba'hai faith chants). If Leaving Town was a more personal album, then this one is more broad in it's mission. Some aspects are cold, while others seem personal, yet at a distant. The song, Jupiter, was originally composed in October 2005 and was originally written to be a new track on the original BlackJaq Cafe CD. The song, Again, features my BlackJaq collaborator, DJ Jax and this song is actually a special remix created exclusively for this release. The song 2012 was my highest and longest charting song on AcidPlanet. It was also the most reviewed and downloaded song I've ever released on the site. This is the first time this album has been released in its entirety. Thank you for your support of my music. This album is dedicated to my dad. He was the one who inspired the title song. Very good drum & bass compilation (8/10)

With our first release we open the floodgates and fill up your ears to the brim with a vivid variety of music in order to let it be heard in the way it's meant to be: totally free of charge and as individual as those who produced it. Whether it's intricate electro, smooth breakbeats, fresh hip-hop or relaxed ambient - a personal note always goes hand in hand with the musical ones. The phonetik fellas team up with the long-legged lady to define what a colourful and interesting compilation can be. And what it should be. :)

Very good compilation of independent electronic music. This is the first release of the netlabel iD.EOLOGY and right from the start they set the bar very high. The album is oriented mainly on (but not limited to) drum & bass. Some elements of breakbeat, nu jazz and downtempo can be easily found too, making the record more diverse and interesting. There is only a one flaw - a very unfortunate hip-hop song "Late At Night" by Broke Gringos. Not only it does not fit here stylistically, but what worse it is simply bland and boring. All the others are top quality, so if you like intelligent electronic music, do not hesitate to check it out.

Manta Raya - "Remix My Ass! Vol. 1"

Mostly dull electroclash (5/10) MANTA RAYA is born in 2000, in Argentina. Mecha, George and Quique knew each other studying Visual Arts in Mar del Plata city. At that time, 1998, they played in different bands. This is how they shared their art and gigs and parties sometimes. After a while, destiny and the same love for music brought them back together. And they had no other choice but to do what they like the most. to Rock!! They've played in every single place they could. From the smallest shitty underground bar to big venues, clubs and festivals. In march '07 Manta Raya was selected by Paste Magazine and Coca Cola Company to be one of the independent artists promoted at Coca Cola's website. Finally their new album Yeah! was released in October 2007. Produced by Manta Raya. Mixed by MantaGeorge and Luciano Siclari. Mastered by Luciano Siclari. Supported by UMI ( Independents Musicians Union ). And one week after the release, they started their first European Tour performing in Berlin, Hamburg, London, Paris and Guadalajara. I never listened to Manta Raya, so I cannot compare these remixes to their original versions. I will, therefore, judge them on their own merits. Most of the remixes fall into electroclash genre, with accompaniment based on 8-bit - to a rather tiring effect. Dull punkish vocals combined with primitive disco-like beats add up to a really ugly whole. The only two interesting tracks are nos. 02 & 08, because of much more intelligent, breakbeat-based instrumentals. Rastadeush & Mr. Nooze - "Split"

Mr. Nooze wins (6/10) Mr. Nooze - single producer, dj from Gdynia in Poland. Inspired by french music scene, and produce music in this french style (especially remixes). There's not much to say... more to listen: Mr. Nooze at Fairtilizer Split album consisting of tunes by two electronic music artists - Rastadeush and Mr. Nooze. Each of them is represented by three tracks. In my opinion, Mr. Nooze wins. His tracks are much more interesting, intelligently combining breakbeat, minimal and 8-bit. Rastadeush delivers more straightforward techno, very repetitive and lacking creativeness. Mr. Nooze would get 10 points from me, while Rastadeush only 4. FusionArt - "Details"

Very good trip hop (8/10) Another solid series of deep sounds from Absys Records stable. This time, however, drum & bass gives way to a different type of music, usually defined broadly and encompassing genres like idm, ambient, breakbeat or dubstep, but at the same time always well-acknowledged by similarly different listener environments. We’re talking about “Details” LP – the newest album by the Polish producer collective known as FusionArt. Recently there have been some changes in the group – the producer duo has been joined by MC Susiah whose role is to soften the otherwise rough and austere tracks with her soft but spirited vocals, thus supplementing the already coherent whole by additional intriguing details, as it is the case with the deep, slightly metallic “Believe” or the dreamy “Details”.

Rather calm electronica with instrumental part based mainly on breakbeat with some traces of dubstep and downtempo. The half of the album includes female vocals, adding to the dreamy atmosphere and justifying placing this work under trip hop label. Highly recommended to fans of intelligent calm electronica.

Monsieur Connard - "Du ciel tombent des cierges"

Great experimental electronica (10/10) Careful people remember that few years ago, Switzerland producers from audio - visual collective Audioactivity Sound System (also members of Audioactivity net-label) were visiting Poland with Monsieur Connard on the mothership board. In year 2003 they played with such artists as: Funkstorung (Chris De Luca and Michael Fakesch), RDJ2, Luke Vibert (Wagon Christ), Zion Train or High Tone. Connard being asked about what they want to play answered in a poetic way: Our intention is creating intelligent dancefloor where boom boom is present, unknown melodies and acid sounds comes from nowhere leaving dirt and dark connections still active. We'll vomiting all our musical inspirations… Five years later through the virtual channel vomiting gentleman from France comes back to our country. Du ciel tombent des cierges EP is seven fresh compositions which we present with great pleasure. Cavalcade of nosing beats infiltrates with lissome IDM glitches. Background is full of still changing ambient passages. Admirers of French in touch will enjoy poetical declaims of Connard. Are you wondering how looks Vichy folklore? We have sizable doze for you! Truly great recording. Broken beats and distorted sounds on a noisy ambient background. So much is happening in these tracks that they could easily fall into chaos. Nikila - "Short Tracks"

Another masterpiece from the Queen of Electronica (10/10) This album is a part of the project Vacui Spacii, launched by Martin Eschoyez. I used here material from tracks i already released, recycled material from tracks i didn't upload and new tracks i composed for this project. I also used samples from The Freesound Project Ulterius is a re-mix of a phon's track End [...] The idea is that the concepts attached to music inspire other artists to manipulate and reinterpret, recreate or destroy them to generate new audiovisual works. The idea is to release not only the concepts but the works, the materials they were made with, the typography, the music. The idea is to free them for exploring the potential of shared knowledge and inspiring others to wonder about this freedom. When all is said and done, everything comes from an empty space : the feelings, the sound waves, the pencil movement and its traces, the experimentation on a grid of voxels which, in the end, is just an empty space on a digital canvas. It's very diverse electronica of superb quality. Almost everything is perfect on this album - crystal sound, the quality of samples, mixing, the melodies. All sounds so fresh and natural, as if recorded by a real band. In fact some tracks could as well be placed under contemporary instrumental music, not simple electronica. I don't know how many real instruments Nikila used for this album (if any), but I doubt it could be so much as it seems. Some of these totally natural sounds simply have to be artificial. And it only confirms her true mastery.

But that's not all. The diversity of this recording is breathtaking. Each song is completely different, full of different ideas, played on different instruments, representing a different genre. Apart from the said contemporary instrumental, we have here nu jazz, downtempo, breakbeat, even industrial. If she let herself put so many ideas into short, under 30-minute album, how huge must be her creativity. It's scary. People shouldn't be so good. ;-) For some artists it would be enough for their whole career.

And that's still not all! One could think that so many different elements contained in such short tracks just have to generate total senseless chaos. And probably they would. With any regular artist, who is not a musical genius. But for Nikila it's a piece of cake. Everything fits perfectly, as if designed by evolution, by trial and error, over millions of years. There's no room for a coincidence. They just had to sound this way. It's so obvious once you already heard them.

I have only one complaint - they are too short. I read the description and I know it's a deliberate move. But these songs are so packed with highly condensed awesomeness, that one minute is really much too short to properly appreciate them. It's as if somebody forced you to admire talent of Hieronymus Bosch by showing his works for 5 seconds each. Wouldn't it be a torture?

For the time being, the only solution for listening to this album without risking a painful death from a musical hunger, is to play it on loop. But that's only a half measure, unfortunately. I WANT THEM LONGER! ;-) I was really tempted to lower my rating because of that, but I came to a conclusion that it would be very unfair to punish these compositions just because they are short.

By the way, what a pity Phon left Jamendo. He would go mad from happiness seeing Nikila used one of his songs. On second thought, he could fall into catatonia, so maybe it's better he can't see it.

By the way (II), I was so lucky as to hear this album in a lossless format, because Nikila was so generous to share the original WAV files with me. I don't know if she would be willing to share them with others, but I would try to ask her if I were you - the listening pleasure will be doubled, that's for sure. This is the work that should be heard in the best format possible.

By the way (III), I know it's April Fools' Day today, but I'm gravely serious here, people.

Skala - "Skalkulator"

Sitting on a fence, looking good (8/10) The debut album of team the Skala "Skalkulator” saw the day light 5 years ago. Given by Underwater Music assembled on portal good reviews, m.in. Alternativepop.pl. Plate was given in traditional form only cd- r, she never was have throwed open in net.This good moment to garages "Skalkulator” in somewhat refreshed version settled in net. All has his beginning and end. We on end propose beginning this time. Roger: all music & productions. Sady: acustic drums. Very good post rock, that is a cross-over between instrumental rock and electronica. Some tracks are more rock-based, some are more influenced by electronica, but each and every is creative, well recorded and has a nice melody. How would you classify it, depends heavily on a point of view, because all these songs are based on real instruments with addition of electronic sounds. Some could be even labeled as downtempo or even breakbeat, still belonging to rock genre, if seen from another perspective. Really quality blend - come taste it now. BTW, nice use of my favorite didgeridoo.

Various Artists – "Music For Danny DeVito"

What a brilliant idea! (9/10) This time Mixgalaxy Records made a special compilation for Mr. Danny DeVito. Why? Because nobody have never done this to him before. At least officially. We sorta didn’t know what kind of music he prefers so we’ve set up a tracklist of a wide variety of genres for him to pick from. We decided that making it a private release would be unfair to our listeners so you all are very much welcome to give this record a listen and share it with your friends of course. It’s an easy bet to say that for Mr. DeVito all the names here are new, however for our regular listeners this release is once again a mix of old timers (even including Jacobo – a raggae-dub side project of Sinestesia) and a couple of guest artists which we would like to present. Meet Abel Mariam from San Jose, California, USA who contributed an opening track and meet Russian-Norwegian duo Zunzagi which consists of sound producer Sergei from Tomsk and singer Julia from Oslo. And finally welcome Without Time band form Grodno, Bealrus. So, as you can expect from Mixgalaxy Records it’s a nice one hour set of high quality tracks fluctuating from deep ambient, easy listening and folk-pop to electro-house, breakbeat and even hip-hop. And if by any chance you are an acquaintance of Mr. DeVito – make sure to pass him the link, that will do us all a big favor.

This is a very good compilation of songs by independent artists. It is very diverse stylistically, ranging from various genres of techno and electronica, through hip hop and pop up to rock. So I guess everyone would find here something of interest. Mr. DeVito included.

I liked 10 tracks out of 16, which is not a perfect, but still very very decent, score. While some songs are first class records, there are a few, which are below average for me. However, I'm giving this compilation one additional point for the brilliant surreal concept of making this album as a gift for the great actor Danny DeVito. I love this kind of humor. And this hilarious cover - guys from Mixgalaxy Records totally rule.

I won't elaborate on bad tracks for a change. Let's focus on the good ones this time:

02 - Grosse - Mousy Cheese Song
A funny parody (I hope so ;-) ) of an acoustic rock ballad - vocal line is comprised of "la la la" sang out-of-tune over an acoustic accompaniment.

03 - Cubic - Unded
Another not fully serious recording. Looped kitschy sounding trumpet as a leading tune for some electronica. Funny and catchy.

04 - Zunzagi - Empathy
Classy trip hop / pop. Nothing too original (like the most of trip hop), but very atmospheric and catchy, with nice dreamy vocals and good accompaniment.

06 - Bear and Lampshade - Witch Hunt
Great breakcore. Don't miss this one!

07 - Gipa - Mad Electric Dog
Very good creative techno / electronica.

08 - PiXtar - Space Adventure
Electronica flirting with industrial and synthpop.

11 - YARA - Walk On Clouds
Creative and interesting ambient.

14 - Without Time - Trap
Great rock / post rock. Atmospheric, dreamy, catchy, powerful.

15 - Fedorov Mark - By The Sea
Calm acoustic instrumental rock. Not bad at all.

16 - Waterplea - Spring Reprise
Calm instrumental rock. Nice dreamy atmosphere.

K-not - "Prodigity"

Classy electronica (8/10) Long awaited second album of young producer from south Silesia - K-not is at least available! We can write voluminous review here but there is no need to do it. Two words is enough: BIG PROGRESS! Classy electronica (mostly breakbeat and dubstep). Diverse and entertaining. Highly recommended. By the way, people who want to use this work commercially should be warned that the track no. 7 "Black Fog" contains a sampled vocal part from "Good Girl Gone Bad" by The Herbaliser. It is so distorted though, that's it's almost impossible to recognize.
