I just want you to see this video, because it is absolutely brilliant - creative and funny. Musically it is also worth noting, if one is into electro, as it illustrates a single from the debut EP of the band AutoKratz, but it definitely stands out because of the video, directed by Laurie Thinot. The video is a parody of infographic with charts changing to the beat of the track. It was presented in 2009 at Saatchi & Saatchi's New Directors Showcase - a part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Troy - "Best Music For Sex"
Strange techno / electronica (5/10)
A rather tiring effort from the Israel-based one-man act. The main problem that I have with this album is bad production / mastering. All the tracks sound like they have been recorded through a concrete wall. Very flat ugly sound. In terms of genre, the album is quite diverse, exploring various styles of electronic music with an experimental approach and a retro feel to it. Therefore, it is difficult to label it otherwise than by using general terms like techno, electronica, disco, sometimes even synthpop. Several tracks are quite entertaining and listenable, despite the terrible sound. Others are simply dull. You can check it out if you like exploring techno wilderness. Nationale2 - "ElectroService"
Minimalistic approach, yet quality kept at the maximum (10/10)
Minimalistic approach, yet quality kept at the maximum from the beginning to the end. Intelligent electronica, not for disco freaks. Just brilliant. Thank you for sharing such a great recording for free.

Radiosonde - "Try Again" [EP]
Interesting electronica (8/10)
|
Try Again from radiosonde on Myspace.
Radiosonde is Brian Judkins, born in Nashville,Tennessee in 1972.At age 14 began taking drum lessons. Played drums for several bands around Nashville. In 2003 I gave up playing drums and wanted too try something different in my musical journey.Having been a fan of different types of music for along time, including different styles of electronic music.I decided too try writing my own style of electronic music. Taking influences from other bands/artist that I have listened to through out my life so far,but trying too stay original. I have two music projects at this time. The one you're checking out at the moment (radiosonde) and my other alias, the new slumber. I have also gone by the name "Lyra". Have performed live in the Nashville area under, the new slumber and lyra at Ruby Green Art Gallery,Caffeine CoffeeHouse, and Springwater. Also I have had songs played on Vanderbilt's radio station 91.1 on the show, 91 Mixdown under the name Lyra on October 12th 2003. Have recently been played on the Black Wolfe Radio podcast as Radiosonde on Episode 2 and Episode 3.
Three songs combined within one track. Each one equally interesting. The first and the second are rather calm electronica (the first with a more experimental side to it). The third is more energetic electro. They are all well crafted, with good melodies. Really nice work for fans of straightforward electronic music.

dK - "Electroglamour And Infinite Sadness"
Zuppa Romana (6/10)
I've got mixed feelings after listening to this album. What are "mixed feelings"? There is this popular joke: "mixed feelings are when you're watching your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your new Ferrari". Well... Maybe. But for me it's also "hearing great music spoiled by a bad singer with a terrible English accent". Why on Earth so many people feel they have to sing in English, even if they lack skills? Somebody kidnapped your mother-in-law and threatens to throw her off a cliff, if you start singing in your native language? Ooops! Bad example. Anyhow... Everything else, apart from the vocalist's work, is at least good on this album. Great dark atmosphere, catchy melodies, very fine distorted guitars, nice electronic effects put in just right places. Just listen to these three instrumental pieces: 06, 08 & 12. Very interesting dark electronica, isn't it? Only maybe production is not up to par on several tracks, but not below my level of tolerance. And then... the singer. His voice is weak and from time to time he is almost out-of-tune. I could tolerate it, if this was his only problem. But the true disaster is his English accent. Why not to sing in Italian? Somebody told them only italo-disco is permitted in Italian? OK, the sound of English is great, it is an easy language to sing and write lyrics, but it makes sense only if the vocalist is able to learn a decent accent! Otherwise, just stick with your native language and the effect will be infinitely better. Because for now, it's just "Zuppa Romana". Of course, I can recommend this album to people who don't know English, or are unable to hear differences in English accents, because the instrumental part is very good. What's the genre? A dark synthpop / electro with industrial feel to it - a mix of Depeche Mode and Oomph! for me. By the way, speaking of Oomph!... Somehow they are not ashamed to sing in German. Instead of embarrassing themselves with "Änglisch"... Apart from Jamendo, you can also download it directly from the artist at Bandcamp for free or for a donation in a variety of formats, including lossless FLAC version. Strangely, this release is governed by a different CC license: |

Various Artists – "Music For Danny DeVito"
What a brilliant idea! (9/10)
|
|
This is a very good compilation of songs by independent artists. It is very diverse stylistically, ranging from various genres of techno and electronica, through hip hop and pop up to rock. So I guess everyone would find here something of interest. Mr. DeVito included.
I liked 10 tracks out of 16, which is not a perfect, but still very very decent, score. While some songs are first class records, there are a few, which are below average for me. However, I'm giving this compilation one additional point for the brilliant surreal concept of making this album as a gift for the great actor Danny DeVito. I love this kind of humor. And this hilarious cover - guys from Mixgalaxy Records totally rule.
I won't elaborate on bad tracks for a change. Let's focus on the good ones this time:
02 - Grosse - Mousy Cheese Song
A funny parody (I hope so ;-) ) of an acoustic rock ballad - vocal line is comprised of "la la la" sang out-of-tune over an acoustic accompaniment.
03 - Cubic - Unded
Another not fully serious recording. Looped kitschy sounding trumpet as a leading tune for some electronica. Funny and catchy.
04 - Zunzagi - Empathy
Classy trip hop / pop. Nothing too original (like the most of trip hop), but very atmospheric and catchy, with nice dreamy vocals and good accompaniment.
06 - Bear and Lampshade - Witch Hunt
Great breakcore. Don't miss this one!
07 - Gipa - Mad Electric Dog
Very good creative techno / electronica.
08 - PiXtar - Space Adventure
Electronica flirting with industrial and synthpop.
11 - YARA - Walk On Clouds
Creative and interesting ambient.
14 - Without Time - Trap
Great rock / post rock. Atmospheric, dreamy, catchy, powerful.
15 - Fedorov Mark - By The Sea
Calm acoustic instrumental rock. Not bad at all.
16 - Waterplea - Spring Reprise
Calm instrumental rock. Nice dreamy atmosphere.
The album has been released by the Mixgalaxy Records netlabel and is available for a direct download as well as at archive.org in mp3 or ogg format. Additionally, it is available on the sonicsquirrel.net website and in the BitTorrent network.

Pink Bazooka - "Kipon" [SP]
Generic electroclash - try harder next time (6/10)
It's generic electroclash with a decent melody, a nice punkish feel, but mediocre female vocals. She is so devoid of passion and energy that it sounds as if someone made her sing against her will. Totally out-of-place in such energetic song. If you like the genre, you might want to check it out anyhow, but don't expect too much. Try harder next time, guys. With a different vocalist - or maybe just pay her more? ;-) The album has been released by the 49manekinow.net netlabel and is available for downloading at archive.org in mp3 format. |

Pornopink - "Pornopink" [promo]
Quite good punk-inspired techno (7/10)
This is hard techno based on distorted guitar-like sounds and disco beats. It probably could be placed under electro label, but some elements of digital hardcore are also present. If AI is ever constructed and it decides to play punk, this is how it would sound like, I guess. Two tracks are more melody-oriented ("Make up" and "Obsession") and generally better, as the artist tries to surprise a listener with variety of effects. The other two ("Pink Panther" & "You like porno") are more straightforward, focused on beats and energy. The result is less interesting, because they are not so energetic, as the artist (probably) planned. This is neither Sex Pistols, nor The Prodigy. But still - nice effort, worth listening. Rastadeush - "Night Is Too Short"
Energetic techno - but not all tracks are equally fine (6/10)
[Myspace]
second release at 49manekinow.net [49mannequines.net]. dirty astmatic terror electro-tech/techno from south silesia in poland. "night is too short" is LP recorded in 2006 by young silesian hooligan RASTADEUSH
It's energetic techno, mixing breakbeat, electro, dance - but not all tracks are equally fine. Almost half of the album (01, 03, 08, 10, 13-14) contains primitive, repetitive dance and electro pieces. But the rest is much much better - still energetic and danceable, but catchy and creative at the same time. So I still recommend checking this album out - some of the tracks are top class. Rastadeush is really talented, if only he stopped trying to satisfy primitive disco lovers.

Interesting space music, heavily influenced by the sound of 80s and artists such as Klaus Schulze and J.M. Jarre. Mostly calm and atmospheric songs with nice melodies.
