Pan:core - "Kithara Kodex"

Brilliant dark experimental electronica (9/10)
If you like my music, i would be happy to read some nice words on a postcard.
just send it to maik sommer – hechtstr.47 – 01097 – dresden – germany

enjoy.

Brilliant dark experimental electronica. Thank you, pan:core. At first I didn't like the cover of "Moonlight Sonata", because of the hip-hop beats in the background. But the ending is so powerful and haunting that I had to revise my opinion. The only track I still don't like is "Intro" - it is just tiring, ugly and, in the first place, doesn't fit the rest of the album. It's like a mole on a beautiful face.

TAT - "Quinta Essentia"

Good gothic album (7/10)

Lacrimosa meets Dead Can Dance meets Einsturzende Neubauten - these are the first associations that came to my mind after listening to this album. But TAT is still quite original. For example, use of a classical guitar gives a very interesting effect. Dark ghotic tunes - very haunting. The only downside is the terrible French accent in English songs.

Akusto, Ben - "Ambience Session"

Really great ambient (8/10)

This album was kind of an experimental in 1997. It was never released until now. Some of you have maybe heard the Enharmon in some of my gigs. Once again, thanks to Al Cabaro being with me in these studio sessions as a mental help and co-drinker. And thanks to all my friends for just being there all the time.

Please sit down in a peaceful corner, take a deep breath, relax and press play.

This is a really great album. I recommend it to every fan of the darker side of ambient. I also recommend it to people who think this is a boring genre. It sometimes happen - with bad ambient albums. But Ambience Session definitely belongs to this genre and it is not boring even for one second. Boring ambient is just bad ambient.

Abogix (J.K.), the - "History Of The Necronomicon, the"

Too ambient for me (6/10)
BITTE SPENDET FUER MENSCHEN DIE AN TOURETTE ERKRANKT SIND! JEDEN CENT WIRD VON MIR AN DIE HILFSORGANISATION "CANNABIS PATIENTEN GERMANY" WEITERGELEITET!
Necronomicon-the book of all evil!
Thank's Amigo!

Of course Master Abogix never goes below the certain (high) level. However, this album is too ambient for me - saying ambient I mean calm and monotonous. Not much is happening throughout some tracks, apart from the diabolic speeches - what is another drawback for me. I am definitely not keen on including speeches in musical tunes. It distracts attention from the music itself.

Nevertheless, I encourage you to check it out, because as I said the quality of this recording is still very high and it can appeal to you, if you are an ambient fan and inclusion of speeches is not a disadvantage for you.

Uncertainty Principle - "Bathe In The Black Sun" [SP]

Nice doom atmosphere, but too repetitive (7/10)

"The Nulll Collective" is a group of like-minded artists from around the world who are sick of commercialism and artistic conformity in both the world at large and in the microcosmic wasteland of underground extreme music.

Through NULLL Infra, the NULLL collective will periodically release their music as free downloads. These tracks are all previously unreleased and will also be made available on CD.

The April Infra release brings a long-awaited massive droning funeral dirge from Uncertainty Principle. Multiple guitar layers guide you to the surface of the black sun, and beyond.

This is a drone-based instrumental doom metal song. I like this genre and I quite enjoyed this work. But I can see its shortcomings. The tune is too repetitive - lack of vocals doesn't help here. Instrumental pieces require a little different style of writing, as to compensate for the lack of a vocal line. Usually, one of the instruments is brought to the front, playing a distinct melody, the purpose of which is to substitute the singer.

Here we have only a long wall of drones, which may soon become boring for a listener who is not a dedicated fan of the genre. Not much is changing or happening throughout the (very long) track.

Finally, production sucks a little bit. The sound is not selective, what adds to the tiring effect of this work.

You can also download this album for free in a lossless FLAC version from archive.org (OGG version is also available there).

Coma Stereo - "Binary Endings"

Very good post rock (8/10)

"Binary endings" is an over 50 minutes of a very spatial, a bit nostalgic and melancholic sounds evoking such a bands as the silver mount zion, godspeed you! Black emperor, trans am and explosions in the sky. Sometimes ,when the forlorn vocal is present( "obsessions and a tulip"), it may be associated with xiu xiu, no twist or even The Cure.
Four musicians from Slovenia take us in a imaginative trip arousing a full scale of perceptible emotions and associated with their memories. A light electronic and an extensive passage created by guitars intertwine with mind-blowing, sometimes a bit brutal and dramatic mood. It`s a great challenge for a post-rock band to achieve a balance between an experimental guitar formulas and electronic-ambient threads. Coma Stereo gives it to you and for this reason it is an obligatory position for connoisseurs of the style.
Binary endings gives you a 50 minutes of sound which is a perfect connection between hypnotic and magic motives and dose of field recordings. So if you like to listen music full of sadness and filled with pain but with a ray of hope at once, don't hesitate to download this album. It's perfect music to listen in the dark and alienation.

Very good post rock album. Great gloomy atmosphere, depressive melodies. Highly recommended for fans of dark guitar music.

The album has been released by the 49manekinow.net netlabel and is available for downloading at archive.org in mp3 format. You can also download it directly from the artist at Bandcamp for free in a variety of formats, including a lossless FLAC version.

Light Among Shadows - "At The Gates Of Dawn" [EP]

Generic gothic metal - not bad at all (7/10)

It's totally generic gothic metal. I mean it is completely devoid of any originality; a highly conservative product for the dedicated fans of the genre.

Still, if you can cope with that, it turns out to be quite good. Musicians are skilled, production decent, atmosphere adequately gloomy and disturbing. Melodies on the most of the tracks are really great, with "Lying Among Shadows" deserving a special notice for awesomeness. And as the other reviewer pointed out - played by a real band on real instruments. Very well played.

Only one track is worse: "Wastelands", an almost pop ballad with bland uncreative melody.

Unfortunately, this one song makes in fact a quarter of this short album, as three of the tracks are only short instrumental intros. Nevertheless, it is quite an interesting effort, worth downloading and most of the songs are entertaining, if only one is not obsessed with originality.

BTW, the cover is terribly kitschy. Yuck.

Keiner, Fabio - "Heavy Waters II"

Extremely calm dark ambient (9/10)

all tracks are remixes and reworkings of free samples provided by JOVICA (www.freesound.org)
with best regards and many thanks to jovica storer!

This is extremely calm and quiet ambient. Totally orthodox (that is - completely devoid of rhythms). I usually don't like such music, as it is often boring - I think it is very difficult to make such music interesting. But Mr. Keiner succeeds. His method of keeping the listener's attention focused is to break long quiet drones with very disturbing, dark sounds. It introduces a disturbing atmosphere to the whole recording, 'cause you listen carefully thinking what lurks around the bend. It's like a sonic version of a scary horror movie. Well done!

If deja vu is a post-experience who repeats itself or is a similar repetitive action in our system so to speak. Then I find this life and its system we are living in, as one big deja vu experience I want to escape..... Today is all about making money and being someone. Companies and humans are killing each other for a name, for profit and land. Someone else are trying just to make a living, because they do not "fit in", in this moneymaking-drowning world. .... This music is about people, oppression and beings who are themselves.. And not tries to be someone else or manipulating for fame. .... Capitalism is just another dying breed is a side-project. Enjoy and download the music for free and leave a comment if you like!
Victor Soldéus.

Obligatory position for everyone who loves Come On Die Young by Mogwai. This is about oppression. This is about molestation. This is about people. This is about fear. This is atrabilious. This is about you. This is about me. This is about us.

Very dark and depressive guitar ambient with traces of noise. Quite captivating, but definitely not for everyone. This is rather difficult music, only for fans of strange sounds. Although, sometimes it gets too calm and repetitive (tracks 01 & 05 are just boring).

Voai - "3 dbl end" [EP]

Interesting dark electronica (9/10)

Beginning electronic music artist from Poland. Voai (Mihail Zarichanskiy, born in Lutsk (Ukraine) on November 12th, 1990) is a one-man project started in the end of 2010. Concentrated on a conception of deep melodic feelings, intellectual sounding of downbeat /// minimal and techno with impurity of dark ambient sounds (mainly, it depends on the mood he is in).
Voai likes to experiment with dff styles to find smth new.

Abogix (J.K.), the - "Domino Labyrinth, the"

Masterpiece with a single flaw (9/10)

Abogix at his best... except for the track no. 2. The singer's voice isn't interesting, the melody is dull. The instrumental version (no. 8) is great, so it's the singer, who ruins everything. Experiment failed, Mr. Reznamor. ;-)

But it's the only flaw on otherwise perfect album. Other tunes are great - dark, psychedelic, creative, entertaining. Abogix is a master of such music and this album only confirms this.

Hoffmann, Michael - "Frost"

Nu jazz masterpiece (10/10)

In 2002 I produced some Loops & Tracks for my band COMFORT ZONE (NuJazz, Electronica). Producing electronic music was a totally new experience for me. I had to get confidend with the different styles of this kind of music. At this time I learned a lot about modern electronic music and its production process. As a drummer I played already a quantity of different styles over the years, but this was really new... a great challenge! Later this knowledge flew into the production of my first own album "FROST". This album should not represent a special kind of electronica, but rather only reflects my own visibility manner on Musica Electronica.

Nu jazz masterpiece, including elements of ambient, experimental electronica, space music. Great sound, real instruments, dark atmosphere. For the details just read the review of Ivan1984, because I agree with each and every word.

Apart from Jamendo, the album has been also released by the Legoego netlabel and is available for downloading at archive.org in mp3 format. Strangely, this release is governed by a different CC license: Creative Commons License.

Bring Me The Head Of Orion - "Colossus"

Dark guitar ambient (8/10)

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Bring Me The Head Of Orion offers a musical experience as large as the state itself. This music contains a sprawling, open-ended quality that confounds expectations by being simultaneously evolutionary and completely static. The formal architecture is built on simple, clear cut melodic ideas and a minimalist type repetition that moves from idea to idea with a refreshing clarity. Depending on your point of view, you might consider the sonic result to accompany the beginning of the world or its end. As or myself, I relate more to it as a soundtrack to the eschaton, and frankly would be worried as to what type of world would produce these sounds from its point of origin. [Read more --->]
