Bramajam - "Get on your feet"

Poor quality midi demo (1/10)

It's just a poor quality midi demo. These are not even full tracks, just short excerpts. There is no mastering at all, there are different volume levels, analog noises. Samples sound terrible. Maybe melodies as such would deserve a better rating than 1/10, but in its current state this "album" is unlistenable. Stay away, people.

The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 format.
Beware!

Sound-Ra - "In Your Face"

Good original techno (7/10)

Looking for good techno/electronica? Look no further. This album should appeal to people who like a bit more experimental side of techno. There are no simple beats, it's not a shallow record for disco fans. Many strange sounds connected in a clever and original way. Keep up the good work, Sound-Ra. Oh, and another great cover (I rate only music, but it's a nice addition).

The only complaint that I have regards sound distribution between channels. A hi-hat banging constantly in the right ear can be really annoying (see the first track or no. 05 - Fever).

Nymphomania - "Unashamed"

Dark ambient of the highest quality (10/10)

From the artist:
Earthy meditation loops of processed voice, bass guitar and wind chime, which resound unceasing throughout my new home by the woods. An album for eating nectarines and grapefruits in the early morning. The sequel to "In Spiral Expression".
From the label:
This is a real trip into mind. The fractal image of the inner self. A kaleidoscope of visions that have a meaning, but you should be sure, because taking the wrong path leads you nowhere. The labyrinth built by one's mind may look confusing, but it gives the hints - just listen. And never touch that green switch!

All instruments programmed and played, vocals, music written and arranged by Josh Landry. Artwork by Mike Winchester.

Dark ambient of the highest quality. With long drones flowing slowly through time and space. Only sometimes strange sounds of ethnic instruments or tribal chants remind you that you are taking part in some kind of a primeval ritual.

This record is hypnotic and repetitive, but never boring like so many bad ambient works. Highly recommended to both ambient fans and people looking for a good introduction to this genre.

The album has been released by the artist himself through his Bandcamp store under the "name your price" scheme. You can download it there in a variety of formats, including a lossless FLAC version. This release is copyrighted.

It has been also reissued by the Russian label USC (United Studios Corporation), under the Creative Commons BY-SA license. On their website you will find links for downloading the album for free from several file storage websites, but only in 320 kbit MP3 format. They inform that "By downloading our files from links below you directly support artists and label". By the way - they release music on physical CDs too.

Tryad - "Tryad Demo (Public Domain)"

Strong debiut (7/10)
industrial, classical, and pop all come together with this new 'virtual band' known as try^d.

with members in seattle, ohio, and japan, try^d music is created entirely over the internet. most members have never met in person.

try^d includes vavrek, ema, and arna from seattle on lead vocals, rjmarshall from japan on keyboards, and john holowach as the band's producer.

I started my adventure with Try^d with their third album "Listen". I was completely mesmerized and shocked by the quality and beauty of this album. Their debut "Tryad Demo (Public Domain)" is of course weaker than "Listen" but this is still beautiful music for every fan of triphop or atmospheric rock/pop. I have one complaint - I don't like the voice of the singer on "The Final Rewind". But apart from that - great job. I gave 7 points, but that's only because this album is followed by "Listen". Let's say it's 7 points on "Try^d scale".

Tanya T6 (Devyn Rose) - "Pieces"

Music for elevators (5/10)
Sexy, sweet, energetic and business savvy are all adjectives that describe Pop/R&B’s newest sensation Tanya "T6". Tanya a.k.a. "T6"'s talents go way above and beyond the typical artist. She not only entertains and captivates her audience with her sexy voice, provocative lyrics and amazing six pack, she is also a leader at the forefront of her own movement.

Generic pop / RnB / hip hop product crafted and targeted at clients looking for utility music. I must say it really delivers in this regard, as it sounds exactly like everything else in this genre and it is recorded on a professional level. Mainstream radio stations and elevator vendors should be delighted.

Being simply a sonic product, not a work of art, it is completely devoid of any artistic value. But this product is of very high quality and may be sold without hesitation from the "Premium goods" shelf, not from a discount basket.

Residus Plasmiques, les - "Album Medical, l'"

Nothing interesting (5/10)

Nothing special - lack of catchy melodies, lack of interesting sounds. Boredom. Disclaimer: I write only about music, because I can't speak French.

Nothing special (5/10)

Not attractive (5/10)

I don't know how funny lyrics are, but music is definitely not appealing. They should work hard on attractiveness of their music. But if the albums are placed chronologically, a small progress can be seen. Still, it's a long way to the top if they wanna rock'n'roll... ;-)

MuzaOla - "MuzaOla"

Not worth a listen... YET! (5/10)

Violin playing over primitive disco beats.

Firstly, these electronic backgrounds are of rather poor quality. And secondly, they do not correspond well with the foreground violin. It works slightly better only in track no. 3.

Of course one could also accuse her of total lack of originality (think of Vanessa Mae), but that's not a problem for me. There is a room for both of them on a musical scene. :)

However, this girl is only 16 years old! And this album isn't in any way a disaster comparable to so many pieces of garbage you can encounter on free-music websites. She seems to have a genuine talent, if she is able to create such work now.

So I keep my fingers crossed, because in a few years time she may become an outstanding artist. Keep up the good work, Ola!

zero-project - "Disabled Emotions Suite"

Beautiful melodies (8/10)
"Disabled emotions" suite is an album that talks about the feelings that must be "disabled" sometimes in our life. Disabled emotions because we choose to disable them, or because we were forced to... Thank you for your support.

Minimalistic neoclassical instrumental album. It is characterized by beautiful melodies, which are - unfortunately - wrapped in plastic pseudo-orchestral accompaniment. Not particularly good electronic samples of winds and strings lower the positive impression generated by high composing skills of the artist. I would love to hear it re-recorded by a real orchestra - these tunes fully deserve it, as they deserve 10 points on Jamendo scale.

For the tunes as they are recorded now I give 8 points, which is still not bad rating. Let it stand as a proof of quality of this work. Every note is exactly at its right place, so that combined with others they can form a perfect melody striking the listener with a full power of its haunting beauty.

How come this guy doesn't write scores to the Hollywood blockbusters? Zimmer, Horner and Williams would have a strong rival.

Tuta, Jakub - "Jakub Tuta"

Nice melodies - terrible mix (3/10)

Album nagrany w pewną cichą noc. Zapraszam do słuchania.

Jakub is a talented musician, his tunes are very atmospheric and this album would be great if not for the mix. Or the lack of. Both channels contain completely different tracks - you have a melody in one ear and an accompaniment in the other. Maybe it can be listened on speakers but on headphones it's a real pain. It's frustrating and disturbing. It's definitely not something one could call "stereo" - "double mono" would better describe the experience. So the only way to listen to it without grinding one's teeth, would be to downmix it to mono.

I think Jakub should consider mixing this album properly and updating the tunes on Jamendo. These are good songs and it's a pity one cannot listen to them with pleasure.

Samplastik - "Duchowe karate"

Hip hop masterpiece (10/10)

I don't like hip hop.

It doesn't mean I am unable to appreciate and enjoy good hip hop works. What I mean is that this genre is generally so devoid of creativeness and populated by morons without even a trace of talent that good hip hop works are almost as hard to find as the brain of G.W. Bush. I hate boring R&B beats repeated in the majority of hip hop songs like they were produced on the same assembly line in a Chinese rap factory of Crappy Music, Inc. I hate stupid self focused lyrics ("Yo niggas! This is MC Moron rapping to all my hommies. Let me tell ya all them bitches are mine."). I hate uncreative ripping off the music of others only to drown it in a meaningless mumbling of some retard. That is why I usually avoid hip hop, because the probability it will be listenable is extremely low.

That's why it's almost a miracle I didn't just move along seeing this is a hip hop album. It must have been the sixth sense or something that stopped me and forced me to try it out. Because this is the rare hip hop gem. With great intelligent meaningful lyrics. With great flow. With powerful rhyming skills:

"Niósł czerwony grzebień w tylnej kieszeni
I lekko się uśmiechał wychodząc z sutereny
Potem przeczesał włosy chyba setny raz z kolei
Wyjął Carmeny, miał plamę na flaneli.
"

This is an excerpt from "Czerwony grzebień", a really atmospheric song about a serial killer - one of the best on this album.

But that's still not all. What else? Original beats - no repetitive R&B shit here. The record is full of catchy creative tunes, utilizing a variety of real instruments (or really convincing samples) and clever electronic sounds. So...
Yo niggas! Listen to me! Let me tell ya this.
Samplastik is the mastah of a hip hop bliss.

No, no, take it easy - that's not Samplastik. That's just my take on a shitty hip hop. Quite successful I think. ;->

Back to the subject. Despite the above rave and the highest possible rating, you shouldn't get the impression that I think this is a perfect work. It could be better. Not every song is equally good (the worst being no. 15 "Niczego więcej", another take on a similar theme to that of "Czerwony grzebień", but much less successful), but still, you have 17 tracks here, and the average quality is definitely sky-high for the regular hip hop. Not every track is also original (for example no. 07 "Więcej nie chcę" strongly resembles Eminem's work - too strongly in my opinion). So why five stars? Because it rises so high from the pool of usual hip hop shit, that it deserves to be acclaimed. Like Samplastik well put it himself:

Widziałem was na spotkaniu w Empiku / I saw you waiting for fans in the record store
Jak siedzieliście sami przy stoliku / You sat alone by the table
I tylko jeden dziennikarz się spytał / And only one journalist asked you
Jak można gówno tłoczyć na płytach. / How come they publish shit on CDs

So it's not 10/10 on my scale, but rather 10/10 on a hip hop scale. This record is definitely 100% shit-free.

The final disclaimer: all the lyrics on this album are in Polish, so this work may not be interesting for people that can't speak our strange language.

zero-project - "Fairytale 2: The orchestral expansion"

Well executed but way too pompous (7/10)
"Fairytale 2: The orchestral expansion" is an additional album to the "Fairytale 2" game soundtrack. This album contains five orchestral parts: Three new compositions and two improved and re-mastered versions of "Valley of tears" and "Lux aeterna". All contents of this album can be used for free for any purpose. I hope you enjoy it :)

Well, it is not a bad recording. It is well orchestrated and quite good from the technical side - the artist uses quality samples or other electronic equipment to successfully imitate orchestral sounds. It is still obvious that these are not real instruments, but your ears would not bleed like with so many similar works. Of course, these songs would be much more enjoyable, if played by an orchestra, but thanks to the artist's skills, the sound is tolerable.

So what's wrong here? The melodies. Yes, yes, I know, they are so beautiful, powerful, full of emotions, drama etc. that... it's really too much. They are totally overblown, just like their pretentious Latin titles - desperately trying to be something more than simple pop neoclassical music. Everybody likes sweet taste, right? But what about a typical wedding cake? They are so sweet and heavy that you have enough after just one bite. This album is a big, colorful, beautiful, dense wedding cake, covered with pink icing. Try to eat all five tiers.

Despite the above complaints, I still quite enjoyed this work, but my taste for music is highly eclectic. So if you're a dedicated fan of "real" classical music - beware.
