DJ Blackwidow - "North Star"

Very good, creative electronica (9/10)

This album was composed January 2006 - August 2006. I was on a creative high after finishing up the BlackJaq CD with my collaborator. I really went into this CD with an idea to create a more straightforward electronica sound. I kept some of the ethnic influences and added elements of space music and chanting (listen for Catholic and Ba'hai faith chants). If Leaving Town was a more personal album, then this one is more broad in it's mission. Some aspects are cold, while others seem personal, yet at a distant.

The song, Jupiter, was originally composed in October 2005 and was originally written to be a new track on the original BlackJaq Cafe CD. The song, Again, features my BlackJaq collaborator, DJ Jax and this song is actually a special remix created exclusively for this release.

The song 2012 was my highest and longest charting song on AcidPlanet. It was also the most reviewed and downloaded song I've ever released on the site.

This is the first time this album has been released in its entirety.

Thank you for your support of my music.

This album is dedicated to my dad. He was the one who inspired the title song.

Straightforward electronica of superb quality. Calm downtempo tunes sit next door to nu jazz flavored tracks, followed by disturbing sounds of breakbeat. Despite the diversity of used styles and techniques, all these songs have one thing in common - the highest quality. Pure pleasure for ears - do not miss this one!

Dollar Rex - "Chromatic"

Professional recording, but not quite my style (6/10)

All tracks composed > january > december 2004 by P.Regnier
mix - additional vocals on tracks 02 - 04 by P.Regnier in june 2005
Electric bass on tracks 09 - 11 by P.Regnier
Ze Sweetie Pink House 2005

This is a professional recording, showing expertise in producing catchy techno / house tunes, heavily based on disco and to a less extent on hip-hop and funk. Some tracks heavily reminded me of the works of the French duo Air, with their vintage sound.

Disco-based house is definitely not my favorite genre and while these tracks may probably work on the dancefloor, the most of them are too primitive to be enjoyable. Still I managed to find three tracks that are quite interesting for me, despite their disco origin (nos. 03, 07 & 09). The rest is rather tiring with monotonous marked beats and uncreative and repeating sampled vocals.

Fans of disco music can safely add 2 or 3 points to my rating, as it is a quality work from the technical side.

It is strange, because this album is shared two times on Jamendo, in exactly the same versions, governed by the same type of a license. The second one can be found here. It has been also archived by archive.org.

Newest full length release of our most controversial artist! This guy refused to cooperate with people from electroclash.pl, he was made one of the best Michael Jackson (when king was alive) and Madonna cover that we ever heard .. not the end .. this bonker young hooligan prepared a great never released remix for one of well known polish electroclash/power-pop group called yummy cake. if you're thirsty of dirty, street electro, ghetto tek sounds in the horrorist mood, this release is waiting for you...

This is a hard techno album, heavily influenced by house and disco. Too much influenced for my liking... While it is professionally crafted, it just felt primitive with all those tiring marked beats and stupid generic vocal interludes. However, 4 tracks stand out from the crowd, showing the true talent of Rastadeush:
02 - No One Knows
05 - Hard Beat Dilla
09 - Dark Symphony
12 - Billie Jean (Rastadeush remix)
Check them out.

Ogg Vorbis - "Tube H Yeah"

Interesting fusion electronica (6/10)

Interesting fusion electronica. However, there is too much of rap and distracting sampled speeches for me on "3 Les messagers" & "6 Tube H yeah". And "4 For nightclubers" is just a primitive dance/house tune - it differs negatively from the rest.

I can recommend only the following tracks:
1 Pornosax
2 La charogne
5 Killer il est

Various Artists – "Music For Danny DeVito"

What a brilliant idea! (9/10)

This time Mixgalaxy Records made a special compilation for Mr. Danny DeVito. Why? Because nobody have never done this to him before. At least officially. We sorta didn’t know what kind of music he prefers so we’ve set up a tracklist of a wide variety of genres for him to pick from. We decided that making it a private release would be unfair to our listeners so you all are very much welcome to give this record a listen and share it with your friends of course.

It’s an easy bet to say that for Mr. DeVito all the names here are new, however for our regular listeners this release is once again a mix of old timers (even including Jacobo – a raggae-dub side project of Sinestesia) and a couple of guest artists which we would like to present. Meet Abel Mariam from San Jose, California, USA who contributed an opening track and meet Russian-Norwegian duo Zunzagi which consists of sound producer Sergei from Tomsk and singer Julia from Oslo. And finally welcome Without Time band form Grodno, Bealrus.

So, as you can expect from Mixgalaxy Records it’s a nice one hour set of high quality tracks fluctuating from deep ambient, easy listening and folk-pop to electro-house, breakbeat and even hip-hop. And if by any chance you are an acquaintance of Mr. DeVito – make sure to pass him the link, that will do us all a big favor.

This is a very good compilation of songs by independent artists. It is very diverse stylistically, ranging from various genres of techno and electronica, through hip hop and pop up to rock. So I guess everyone would find here something of interest. Mr. DeVito included.

I liked 10 tracks out of 16, which is not a perfect, but still very very decent, score. While some songs are first class records, there are a few, which are below average for me. However, I'm giving this compilation one additional point for the brilliant surreal concept of making this album as a gift for the great actor Danny DeVito. I love this kind of humor. And this hilarious cover - guys from Mixgalaxy Records totally rule.

I won't elaborate on bad tracks for a change. Let's focus on the good ones this time:

02 - Grosse - Mousy Cheese Song
A funny parody (I hope so ;-) ) of an acoustic rock ballad - vocal line is comprised of "la la la" sang out-of-tune over an acoustic accompaniment.

03 - Cubic - Unded
Another not fully serious recording. Looped kitschy sounding trumpet as a leading tune for some electronica. Funny and catchy.

04 - Zunzagi - Empathy
Classy trip hop / pop. Nothing too original (like the most of trip hop), but very atmospheric and catchy, with nice dreamy vocals and good accompaniment.

06 - Bear and Lampshade - Witch Hunt
Great breakcore. Don't miss this one!

07 - Gipa - Mad Electric Dog
Very good creative techno / electronica.

08 - PiXtar - Space Adventure
Electronica flirting with industrial and synthpop.

11 - YARA - Walk On Clouds
Creative and interesting ambient.

14 - Without Time - Trap
Great rock / post rock. Atmospheric, dreamy, catchy, powerful.

15 - Fedorov Mark - By The Sea
Calm acoustic instrumental rock. Not bad at all.

16 - Waterplea - Spring Reprise
Calm instrumental rock. Nice dreamy atmosphere.

The album has been released by the Mixgalaxy Records netlabel and is available for a direct download as well as at archive.org in mp3 or ogg format. Additionally, it is available on the sonicsquirrel.net website and in the BitTorrent network.

K-not - "Sinfinity"

Quite interesting electronica (6/10)

K-not is an amateur artist from Silesia (Poland). When he was only 8 years old his brother buy a CD The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation and then K-not change his mind about music at all. The same effect K-not have when he saw on Viva Zwei Premiere video for Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy. At the beginning when K-not can only buy some CD's or Tape's, in his region there's no music like IDM or d'n'b so he listen to some bands like Deftones, Slipknot, Soulfly, Tool or Nine Inch Nails. First computer, first internet, first Fruity Tracks/Loops and K-not started to create some very acid tracks. In Years 04-07 he do about 60 tracks in simple selection...vol.1, vol.2, vol.3 and vol.4. The inspiration of his first three volumes in mostly range are acid d'n'b and idm artists like AFX, Autechre, Squarepusher, Photek, Future Sound Of London. Vol.4 became more oriented on Experimental Techno cause by artists like Orbital. Now when he create his first solo project Sinfinity, he started to think about professional aproach to music but he don't know any professional musicans or producers so he decided to place his music for free.

Quite interesting electronica, although not every track is good. Some are influenced with primitive house, dance and hip-hop (3,4,6,9,11). Also the cover of "Missing" is dull. All tunes are also slightly too repetitive. By the way, "Missing" is of course copyrighted, so CC license does not apply here.

The album has been released by the 49manekinow.net netlabel and is available for downloading at archive.org in mp3 format. You can also download it directly from the artist at Bandcamp for free in a variety of formats, including lossless FLAC version.

Nationale2 - "Meka Musik"

Minimalistic techno (7/10)

100% Lofi, sample and mastering 8-bit mono, this is the program you reserve this album resolutely Hard House. N2 has showed its good old AMIGA 500 to compose 12 tracks explosives. A beautiful demonstration as a minimum, it is possible to make it the most.

Very minimalistic techno. Simple means - a powerful effect. However, it is slightly too hardcore for me. The most of the tunes are too monotonous, especially tracks no. 5 & 7 - I didn't like them.

Nevertheless, if you like oldschool techno with strong beats - check it out.
