SaReGaMa - "Lucky Number 7" [SP]

Ethnic jazz masterpiece (10/10)

Ethnic Jazz with percussions, jews harp, guitar, sax and clarinet.

The track is in 7/8 beat, thus the name - Lucky Number 7.

The saxophone, clarinet and guitar are played by Hamelin Bérengnier.

This track is a part of Triplexity's album Between Light and Shadow.

The theme is based on classical Arabic scales and inspired by Armenian folk and Balkan music.

٧ is arabic 7

The audio quality of music offered on Jamendo in best case reaches 190 kbps, which is quite reasonable for evaluational purposes but definitely not enough to experience the richness of original sound (1411 kbps). If you'd like to feel how this music sounds for real you can obtain a lossless FLAC versionof this album on my website.

Another masterpiece by SaReGaMa and Hamelin. This time it's ethnic jazz and as always in case of a collaboration of these two individuals - it's perfect. Arabic and Balkan rhythms mixed with jazzy solos and a catchy leading melody. This is very sophisticated music, yet it's light as a breeze. It enters your head (or your soul, if you're into religion) and refuses to leave.

It reminds me of great Polish jazz band Mazzoll & Arrhythmic Perfection. If you like Mazzoll, you'll love "Lucky Number 7".

Thank you for this musical feast.

You can also obtain a lossless FLAC versionof this album from the artist's website for a small donation.

Rebolt - "Made In Spite" [EP] (bonus edition)

Nice hard rock EP with two unnecessary bonuses (6/10)

«Made In Spite EP» is Rebolt’s first official release. It includes four original hard hitting rock tunes in the rock/metal vein. This is the bonus version, with two songs recorded in 2007.

Despite their mixed backgrounds, the members of the Norwegian band came together for one single reason: The love for old fashioned heavy metal and hard rock! The songs featured on their debut EP is a humble batch of rock’n’roll which has got both soul and playfulness written all over it. In short, it is an honest attempt to make the audience dig up their air guitars and put their pedals to the metal (although rather not at the same time!).

It was the guitar riffs and solos, the big choruses and the unpretentious joy of bands such as AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and Iron Maiden which lead to the foundation of Rebolt during the winter of 2004. The band had previously recorded two four-track demos under the ad-hoc name of Powerage back in 2004 and 2005. Although they were both crammed with impressive tunes, the sound quality of these early recordings left much to be desired.

This time around there were much more studio time at hand, a fact which without doubt reveals itself on the refined finished product. The guitar sounds better than ever, the drums are solid and powerful, the bass is dense and rocksteady and the shining vocals are as dynamic and energetic as they are on stage. The sum of it all is a cliché, but still spot on: this is hard hitting as hell!

Here's my review of the main EP:

It's extremely conservative classic rock. No traces of originality here. But the band knows how to play, they are very energetic and full of enthusiasm. They do not discover new lands or cross any borders, but if you like classic rock, you should enjoy their recording. The tracks 2 & 3 are the best, the first track is the worst, because it is too obviously crafted with the charts in mind.

And here's my review of the bonus tracks:

This time energy and technical skills does not compensate for complete lack of originality. The more so, their energy seems to be almost exhausted. They are fast and loud but somehow I felt like they were tired and the music lost its power and charm.

However, if somebody likes classic hard rock just because it's hard rock and is not discouraged by the album's derivativeness, he can check it out.

Classic to the bone (7/10)

KraftiM - "BackVieW"

Too ambient for me (6/10)
Hmmm... It's definitely an interesting effort, but somehow it doesn't appeal to me. I liked the following tracks: 1 Danik; 2 Caragon & 8 Fratatag. The others were:
a) too experimental (5 BiLena - I hated backward recitations mixed with a classical melody here)
b) too ambient and calm (6 Drong - not much is happening throughout the track - IMHO the artist failed to create the mood and atmosphere - the result is boring)
c) uncreative (7 Adaschu - a Schubert's cover without any interesting idea for changing the master's work).

Ambient seems to be an easy genre, but in my opinion it's one of the most difficult, because there is only a thin line between meditation and sleep. It requires a great talent to be able to measure silence, repetitions and long static passages in such way that the listeners fall into a state of ecstasy and not into a coma.

KraftiM chose the right ingredients on three tracks, so he is definitely an artist to be watched.

Of course, if one is a dedicated fan of ambient in any form, he may love the whole album. It is a professional recording, not an amateurish demo.

The Motyw (Wojciech Wszelaki) - "Release The Beat" [EP]

Nice techno / trance recording (7/10)

"Release the Beat" - this is my tribute to techno and derivatives of this musical genre. It's so my steppingstone - music to dance and to listen. I recommend!

It's a simple techno / trance recording. Nothing too spectacular, but well crafted and quite catchy and entertaining, if one likes straightforward techno.

The best track for me is no. 03 - really energetic as hell.

I definitely prefer this artist's techno side, than his synthpop productions. But it's probably just me, as I'm not too enthusiastic about synthpop in general.

Triplexity - "Between Light And Shadow"

The ultimate nu jazz masterpiece (10/10)

This album combines extremely diverse tracks, so everyone will surely find here something that fits his musical taste.

Coal Train: Atmospheric NuJazz. This Track was inspired by The Descendants of Mike And Phoebe's composition – Coltrane.

Love Supreme: Club version of John Coltrane's Love Supreme.
Honky Fonky: Funky Jazzy Groove with some samples and scratching.
Reflections: Ambient NuJazz Breakbeat. Oriental flavored composition.
Lucky Number Seven: Ethno Jazz in 7/8 beat. Inspired by Armenian folk and Balkan music.

Calleso: Humorous Jazzy composition with Latin flavor. Calesso derives from Spanish calle soleada, meaning sunny street.
Al Gore: This IDM track was inspired by Al Gore's movie about global warming An Inconvenient Truth.
1000 and 1 nights: Organic Electronic Oriental World Fusion. In this track were used samples of Hang from the track Sudharma, album Organic Healing Sound by Pedro Collares.
When Everybody's gone: Melancholic Atmospheric Ambient based on the tune For Danielle originally performed on Kalimba in Instrumental Works album.

The ultimate nu jazz masterpiece.

The three geniuses just formed one Supergenius, the omnipotent musical Godzilla. This monster destroys competitors with his sound superpower. Creators of bad music run for their lives, while evil corporations, who think anyone not buying Britney Spears' records is a thief robbing them of THEIR copyright money, shriek in horror and disbelief.

Any of the powerful members of the Trinity does not "appear courtesy of His Kindness The Owner Of The Copyright who in his infinite generosity and wisdom allows the poor artist to create and collaborate". These musical terrorists have chosen not to become slaves. What politically incorrect behaviour!

This barbarous three-headed monstrosity is so shameless as to offer the lossless DRM-free version of this masterpiece on its website for a lousy Paypal donation!

I WARN YOU! Anyone helping Supergenius wreaking havoc on the music industry and on our western culture and 2000-years-old civilization by buying this album can be sued by RIAA on charges of "music theft", because all this money should be spent on Justin Timberlake instead! Remember! Buying independent DRM-free music on the Internet is illegal, unmoral and will be prosecuted with any and all legal measures available.

KraftiM - "Featuring Justbase" [EP]

Emotionless (6/10)

A fresh collaboration with Justbase, who provides the rhythms. A lot of energy came in and out. Here on Jamendo comes a sample of the results.

Hold is featuring the singer Geechi too, who's wonderful voice gives a great extra to the instrumentalists.

The singer of Morens wishes to stay incognito, also after several seductions.

Thanks WarMocK for another nice sleeve........

Ambient-like music with an experimental edge.

I agree with the earlier reviewers that this is an interesting work. KraftiM is without a doubt a skilled musician, his songs are professionally crafted. Just as an example, the female voice on "Morens 2" is great. This album is not too ambient like a previous one, in fact it's not quite ambient in a strict sense. Therefore, I wondered for a long while why I didn't dig it...

And suddenly it came to me: these tunes are devoid of soul; completely emotionless. They lack this elusive quality, through which a song can influence a listener's emotions, mood or even sometimes behaviour. It's almost as if they were created not WITH a computer, but BY a computer.

I find similar lack of emotions in music of Nine Inch Nails - a professional band, praised by many, belonging to one of my favourite genres, but whose songs are too cold and artificial to be really enjoyable.

And just like NIN's music, this album met with very positive reactions on Jamendo. So despite my rather negative review, I encourage you to check it out. It's a short recording and you may like it just like the others.

Tuta, Jakub - "Jakub Tuta"

Nice melodies - terrible mix (3/10)

Album nagrany w pewną cichą noc. Zapraszam do słuchania.

Jakub is a talented musician, his tunes are very atmospheric and this album would be great if not for the mix. Or the lack of. Both channels contain completely different tracks - you have a melody in one ear and an accompaniment in the other. Maybe it can be listened on speakers but on headphones it's a real pain. It's frustrating and disturbing. It's definitely not something one could call "stereo" - "double mono" would better describe the experience. So the only way to listen to it without grinding one's teeth, would be to downmix it to mono.

I think Jakub should consider mixing this album properly and updating the tunes on Jamendo. These are good songs and it's a pity one cannot listen to them with pleasure.

The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format.
Beware!

KraftiM

A soundarchitect from Holland. You may call it Pays-Bas too.

Follow news on www.facebook.com/kraftim

Works with found sounds, voices, field recordings, live wavs and midi's and mixes them in his own cross-rhythmic way.

First releases on the Musictrade Netlabel in 2005 on the MT003 (Norberg 2005 Field Mixes) on the MT005 (Requiems for a Submerged City), a New Orleans tribute album, and the recent MT010 (Ice Mustard). .

Developing since then with influences from classic masterpieces towards more ambient, drone-like pieces that try to capture the full complexity of silence, as well as more rhythmic experimental pieces that try to shift yer mood rather than move yer feet.

Recently started some collaborations, where the songs with Justbase were released February 2007. In the mean time Ancient Species and JamatriX are released.

"This musical travel agency is specialized in surprise destinations" my friend Doc says in one of his reviews, and KraftiM is honoured with this qualification. Circling around but still getting further like a friendly tornado that hopes to touch you gently on its way....

Later regularly releases come here on Jamendo, production keeps growing, and collaborations are evolving.

First full albums: BackvieW and Ancient Species, latest main albums FraxurY and Jobin. Inbetween Resur, etSitara, Depht and some Jamendo specialties.

Glad to hear from you...

KraftiM - "Ancient Species"

Very diverse ambient - professional, creative and entertaining (7/10)

Ancient Species represents a collection of classic tracks specially released for Jamendo.
Shot0p is a very recent collaboration with Dutch singer o0o, who did the singing and the lyrics. You can find him here on Jamendo too! Just click on his icon next to his review :)
mRat is dedicated to my loyal pet Mr Rat, alas died, where a beautiful violinline from Japanese violinplayer Kigas is used.
Egawen part 2 is a thorough treatment of a newagy piece, with voice of surinam singer Bibi. Part 1 you can find on a next release
Criguere part 2 is a treated recording of dozens of crickets who served as food for and were to be eaten by some reptiles in this house. Also here part 1 can be find elsewhere...
Strowl is a description of a slow walk on a hot day .
Afternoon Gaspuff is the relaxing afterwards with my tired dog in the garden.
Oyeaho is with the singing and guitar-riff of suriname artist Kenny B.

Very diverse ambient album - professional, creative and entertaining, although not every track is equally interesting.

1 Shot0p
Great hypnotic rhythms, strange hiphop-like vocals - very original and entertaining tune.

2 mRat
Mechanic beats, disturbing noises - I feel like I listened to a heartbeat of a giant robot; a great atmospheric tune. The short distorted violin interludes seem out-of-place, but in fact perfectly fit wicked atmosphere. I couldn't find Mr Rat anywhere, though. ;-)

3 Ewagen part 2
I love the way you play with stereo sound - how the sound migrates between the channels. Very fresh concept and professional execution. The result is great. The distorted keyboard melody played on fast forward is also amusing.

4 Criguere part 2
You have a rat, a dog and some reptiles? Wow. And the song? A miss this time. Nothing is really happening throughout the track - a number of background noises, which seem to be in one song by accident. As a result, the sounds just flow by, not moving a listener in any way. The tune very similar to your earlier works (earlier on Jamendo).

5 Strowl
Mechanical and repetitive, but with a nice atmosphere - I like it.

6 Afternoon Gaspuff
It didn't fit my taste, although it's far better than no. 4. Too static and peaceful for me.

7 Oyeaho
It's great how it starts relatively calm and peaceful and grows louder and more powerful. A mesmerizing tune.

I listen to your works in order in which they are placed on Jamendo and this album is far better than the earlier (I noted that the songs aren't new, though).

Rebolt - "Promo 2007"

Typical hard rock (5/10)

These are two songs we recorded for the local compilation "Hits Out Of HiT" in April 2007.

"SAM" is sort of a tribute to the sci-fi show "Stargate SG-1" and the character of "Samantha Carter" and the arrangement pays more tribute to basic hard rock of Danko Jones than the old school stuff, even though Danko himself also pays tribute to the same old heroes as ourselves.

"Lemmy" is in fact one of the first songs we ever wrote back in 2004 and appeared in an early version on our 2004 demo, "You Should See Us Rock". You could see this song also as a tribute, to Lemmy in Motörhead, but it is also a statement from a "straight guy" that shares the equal passion of rock'n'roll as Lemmy, even though he doesn't drink as much and has tattoos all over his body.

The song "Lemmy's Heart" is present in the ski movie "Kong Vinter 4 - The Lost Hygge" released in November 2007. Check it out! www.bigtrix.com

Tuta, Jakub - "Fuck Me"

Good compositions - bad production (6/10)

Jakub has a composing talent - his tunes are catchy and atmospheric and would be great. Unfortunately, he lacks production skills. Completely. He has a lot to learn, before his songs will be fun to listen. As for now, bad production kills all the fun, so 6/10 rating is all I can give.

So learn hard, dear Jakub, or hire a producer.

Oh, some progress can be seen already - this time he at least managed to mix channels properly.
