OK, so the time has come. Nobody follows my blog, so I have to fire the big guns (or rather big boobs) in a last-ditch resort for saving my blogger career. So here we go. Let me present you a video with naked chicks.
And seriously... This is a brilliant song by Fatboy Slim's The Brighton Port Authority, featuring the one and only David Byrne, whose distinct vocals and nonchalant delivery fit perfectly with the lighthearted melody and the funny video. And speaking of the video - yes, there are naked chicks in it. But all the fun parts are covered with censor boxes. I am sure it required a huge amount of editing, as it has been done in a very funny and creative way. It is not very often, when you can see censorship actually adding some value to the censored material. Absolutely brilliant. Just watch it for yourself. Oh, and the guy behind the video is the acclaimed music video director Keith Schofield. |

I will show you this infographic: Autokratz - “Stay the same”
I just want you to see this video, because it is absolutely brilliant - creative and funny. Musically it is also worth noting, if one is into electro, as it illustrates a single from the debut EP of the band AutoKratz, but it definitely stands out because of the video, directed by Laurie Thinot. The video is a parody of infographic with charts changing to the beat of the track. It was presented in 2009 at Saatchi & Saatchi's New Directors Showcase - a part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Karmuazine - "Between the Lines"
Classy trip-hop offering (8/10)
This a classy trip-hop offering. Great female vocals, fine English accent (at least from my non-native perspective), professional production, catchy melodies, dreamy atmosphere. Highly recommended for fans of trip-hop or simply good pop music. The album is available for free under CC licenses on Jamendo. You can also buy a lossless FLAC version on Bandcamp. This release is copyrighted. SUPPORT INDEPENDENT ARTISTS
If you like this album and you can afford it, consider supporting the artist by buying the full album or single tracks directly from the artist on Bandcamp - for as low as $ 0.7 per track. [Facebook] | [SoundCloud] ![]() ![]() |

Bramajam - "Get on your feet"
Poor quality midi demo (1/10)
It's just a poor quality midi demo. These are not even full tracks, just short excerpts. There is no mastering at all, there are different volume levels, analog noises. Samples sound terrible. Maybe melodies as such would deserve a better rating than 1/10, but in its current state this "album" is unlistenable. Stay away, people. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 format. |

Peszek, Maria - "Maria Awaria" (2008)
Maria Peszek is a highly acclaimed Polish singer/songwriter. She is considered to be controversial, especially by right-wing retards and tabloids, because she is not afraid to openly discuss - both in lyrics to her songs and in interviews - themes such as sex, faith, patriotism and mental diseases. Each of her three albums was a commercial success, at the same time being praised by the critics and receiving many awards in her native Poland. She sings exclusively in Polish.
Maria Awaria (Maria the Failure) is a loose concept album about sex, love and femininity. All lyrics are in Polish and they are really good, witty and powerful, being an important factor in making these songs as awesome as they are. Therefore, this album may not appeal to non-Polish speaking public, as some tracks are built around lyrics with musical background playing only a small part ("Milosc w systemie Dolby Surround", "Reks", "Ladne slowa to"). Nevertheless, I still encourage you to check this album out, because many other tracks are brilliant from the musical side too (e.g. "Rosol", "Hujawiak", "Maria Awaria", "Muchomory"). From the musical perspective this is a pop (or pop rock) record, with some jazz and modern electronica influences. The album is masterfully produced by one of the best Polish producers and electronica composers, Andrzej Smolik, so the said musical background is full of pleasant surprises on many occasions. Many of Peszek's vocal lines are catchy as hell too and should be enjoyable even without understanding of her lyrics. Support artists, not recording industry Pay the artists directly. They do not profit from CD sales. If you buy brand new mainstream albums in regular record stores (no matter whether online or offline, CDs or downloads), almost all the money goes to the recording industry mafia and is later used for committing crimes such as unlawful harassment of fans and bribing authorities to implement changes in law, which would infringe basic human rights. If you really want to support mainstream artists (and you should, if you love their music!), go to concerts or buy merchandise off the official websites. If you can afford buying music, but it is not possible to pay a particular artist without a mafia tribute, consider supporting some independent artists instead. You can find many great acts on such websites as magnatune.com, jamendo.com, cdbaby.com, bandcamp.com, megatotal.pl. Supporting independent artists helps fight the recording industry mafia. Troy - "Best Music For Sex"
Strange techno / electronica (5/10)
A rather tiring effort from the Israel-based one-man act. The main problem that I have with this album is bad production / mastering. All the tracks sound like they have been recorded through a concrete wall. Very flat ugly sound. In terms of genre, the album is quite diverse, exploring various styles of electronic music with an experimental approach and a retro feel to it. Therefore, it is difficult to label it otherwise than by using general terms like techno, electronica, disco, sometimes even synthpop. Several tracks are quite entertaining and listenable, despite the terrible sound. Others are simply dull. You can check it out if you like exploring techno wilderness. Tryad - "Tryad Demo (Public Domain)"
Strong debiut (7/10)
I started my adventure with Try^d with their third album "Listen". I was completely mesmerized and shocked by the quality and beauty of this album. Their debut "Tryad Demo (Public Domain)" is of course weaker than "Listen" but this is still beautiful music for every fan of triphop or atmospheric rock/pop. I have one complaint - I don't like the voice of the singer on "The Final Rewind". But apart from that - great job. I gave 7 points, but that's only because this album is followed by "Listen". Let's say it's 7 points on "Try^d scale".

Various Artists - "Fonoteka 7 (Remixed)"
A quality compilation from a Polish retro netlabel (7/10)
This is a quality compilation of contemporary club music: from electronica and nu jazz through hip hop to disco, all with a nice retro feeling, typical for productions coming from Estrada Nagrania netlabel. The retro feeling is strengthened through masterful mixing, blending modern tunes with sampled fragments of Polish radio programmes from the 1970s - often to very funny and surreal effects.
Only several of these tracks suit my personal taste, hence the rating of "7". However, trying to adopt a more objective view, I have to admit all of this material is top class and should satisfy a more club-music-oriented listener. And for people longing for "good old times", ready for a nostalgic time travel back to '70s - this should be a masterpiece. If somebody is interested in my choice, here is the list of my favorites: 04 - Symbiotic Sounds - 1987 08 - 2 Pac - Thug Style (produced by ylaib) 15 - Printempo - Szarosc poniedzialkowego popoludnia 17 - Ortalio - Cynematyka 19 - Graf Cratedigger - Lotniskowiec 21 - Sawersky - Spectral Type 1 22 - Synnc - Nights Of course, the clear winner is the one and only Printempo, whose new track is equally fabulous to the material from the debut album of this act, which I reviewed earlier. The album has been released by the Estrada Nagrania netlabel and you can download it for free in mp3 format. The lossless version is available in the netlabel's Bandcamp store under the "name your price" scheme. You can also listen to the full album online on Bandcamp. Of course, if you like this album and you intend to keep it, I encourage you to make a donation (purchase) through Bandcamp, even if you need only a free mp3 version. After all, "name your price" means any amount you can afford. PLEASE SUPPORT INDEPENDENT ARTISTS. |

scal.g - "Open World"
Calm electronic music with rock influences - very good! (8/10)
Calm electronic music with rock influences. Many tracks remind me of Moby, but I don't say they are just copies. Rather than that, both artists have similar approach to creating their music and they both use the same pieces of puzzle - just place them in a different way to compose a different picture. In brief: very good album for both electronica and rock fans. [mirror @ archive.org] | [Myspace]

Tanya T6 (Devyn Rose) - "Pieces"
Music for elevators (5/10)
Generic pop / RnB / hip hop product crafted and targeted at clients looking for utility music. I must say it really delivers in this regard, as it sounds exactly like everything else in this genre and it is recorded on a professional level. Mainstream radio stations and elevator vendors should be delighted. Being simply a sonic product, not a work of art, it is completely devoid of any artistic value. But this product is of very high quality and may be sold without hesitation from the "Premium goods" shelf, not from a discount basket. [Artist's Website] |

Hobby Horse - "Dry Flower"
Not bad, but doesn't fit my taste (6/10)
The musicians are skilled, but I do not like the vocalist's singing manner. There is no passion in her voice, she sings as if somebody pointed gun at her head and made her do it. There are no catchy melodies and the noise is not powerful but dull and boring. I love noisy music but it has to appeal to me because of its qualities. When there are no melodies, we should be able to feel the "power of noise" - the overwhelming desire to smash a chair on a wall and break windows with your head (a great example would be the band "Therapy?"). During this recording I had only an overwhelming desire to go to sleep. There is one exception - the first track "Alex". This one is really fine. But not because of the singing manner, but because of the great riffs. Their sound is heavily influenced by Sonic Youth, what can be seen as another drawback or a recommendation depending on whether you are a fan of Sonic Youth or rather originality. |

Celibatfighters - "Remise en ordre"
Lack of interesting melodies, too eclectic (5/10)
I was not too pleased with this recording. It lacks interesting melodies and is too eclectic. Eclecticism must not be a bad thing, but only if it is a planned action. Eclecticism on this album seems to be a result of a coincidence: "we somehow succeeded in composing some songs, so here they are". Also technical skills and quality of recording of some of these tunes are questionable (e.g. 03 Qu'est ce qui m'arrive?). Only two tracks are better than average: 1 Aller simple - a very dark and moody tune with an interesting melody; 10 Bande a part - a light acoustic guitar song with a funny melody. MuzaOla - "MuzaOla"
Not worth a listen... YET! (5/10)
Violin playing over primitive disco beats. Firstly, these electronic backgrounds are of rather poor quality. And secondly, they do not correspond well with the foreground violin. It works slightly better only in track no. 3. Of course one could also accuse her of total lack of originality (think of Vanessa Mae), but that's not a problem for me. There is a room for both of them on a musical scene. :) However, this girl is only 16 years old! And this album isn't in any way a disaster comparable to so many pieces of garbage you can encounter on free-music websites. She seems to have a genuine talent, if she is able to create such work now. So I keep my fingers crossed, because in a few years time she may become an outstanding artist. Keep up the good work, Ola! |

Sullivan, Mark David - "Moje ogrody"
Not very good electronica (4/10)
The most of the tracks contain very cheap "plastic" ugly samples. Further, the melodies tend to be rather primitive, sometimes even balancing on the verge of disco polo (the most primitive type of the Polish disco music), like in "01 - Tanczac z gwiazdami". Plastic guitar samples present in most of the tracks do not help much and the result is light years from true rock music, despite of use of "guitar" riffs. The genres that fit best here are synthpop and space music, but this is a weak effort, not worth any attention - there's too much really good electronica around, even here on Jamendo. If you really must, check out "05 - Lustra" - this track is a little better than others. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. |

Sullivan, Mark David - "Bez przyszlosci"
Generic electronica (6/10)
Why generic? Because there's nothing particularly interesting about this recording. The melodies are pleasant, the artist knows how to compose a tune, but they just do not stay in your head - they are too simple and unoriginal. The arrangement is also very simple, with cheap "plastic" ugly samples. Overall, it's not bad, it's just... boring and pointless for me. As for the genre, it's a mix of space music and synthpop, so if you are dedicated fans of such music, you can check this out, it won't hurt. Apart from the quality of samples this is a decent work from the technical side, so it probably can be attractive to some people. [Artist's Myspace] ![]() |

The Motyw (Wojciech Wszelaki) - "Music For The People" [SP]
Simple synthpop (5/10)
Simple synthpop tunes. Professionally crafted and with nice melodies, vocals are in tune. Just too plain and easy for my liking. Simply too synthetic, I guess. But it's just me, check it out if you're a fan of the genre, it may be a 10-point album for you. [Artist's website] ![]() |

ajk - "Uratowac resztke mnie cz. 2 (akt 2: Czlowiek w swej wielkosci, Dezintegracja)"
Decent lyrics wrapped in bad music and delivered with weak voice (4/10)
Like I already wrote in the other review, this artist is not a bad lyricist. So it's a pity his lyrics are illustrated with such uninteresting or even ugly (a terrible track no. 1) music. He is also a rather lousy vocalist, singing - or in fact reciting - without passion and sometimes almost out-of-tune. To sum it up: waste of time. Maybe he should think about publishing poems instead? The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. |

Happiness Project - "Electric Games"
Mediocre synthpop (5/10)
Just mediocre synthpop. Track 1 (I want you) is quite nice, with industrial feeling and interesting melody. Track 10 (Night sky) is also not so bad. But the others are weak. They are dominated by a disco beat, very unoriginal. Moreover, singers' voices are weak and uninteresting (especially male voice - female's is slightly better). [Artist's Myspace] ![]() |

Orchid - "Takk!_Soundsampler"
Excellent dreamy pop rock (9/10)
Excellent dreamy pop rock. And I don't say that because I'm the Pole myself, but because of the quality of this recording. I'm the last person to praise work of others, if it's not really worth it. So my rating doesn't mean "9, because they come from Poland and they're young" but "9, because you can put it right beside Portishead's or The Cardigans' albums". Pros: - catchy melodies (but not primitively commercial), - great dreamy atmosphere, - beautiful female voice, - not bad English accent. Cons: - production. The voice is without any sense hidden in the background. Sometimes it's even hard to hear the lyrics (especially on "Moreless"). - drums. Monotonous cymbals, which in addition are louder than the vocals ("Moreless" again), distract attention from otherwise great tunes and after a while become really tiring. Overall, the pros seriously outweigh the cons. Despite the small drawbacks, this is the finest pop rock album I heard in months. And it is infinitely better than everything that Polish branches of the majors excreted from their rotting bowels and labeled as Polish pop rock, in years. The highlights: 1 moreless - catchy, sexy melody, great piano. 2 call to the past - the best on this album. Smash hit. Beautiful melody sang beautifully. 5 mess - starts surprisingly with an old-fashioned keyboard but then contemporary guitars join with a nice melody. But it is a chorus that is really mesmerizing with a haunting vocalise. It reminds me of the great vocalise from the Polish classic movie "Pociag". Finally, anyone wanting more from Orchid may wish to visit their website. You can find several bonus tracks there - each worth checking out. And you can now buy their debut album in mp3 for 3,5 euro (!) and on CD for 12 euros. I highly recommend it, because it is as great as this demo. |

The Motyw (Wojciech Wszelaki) - "I Want Now" [SP]
Not catchy enough (5/10)
Pop should be catchy. Period. It is of course highly individual matter and for some people this piece could be great, but for me the melody is not catchy. The technical side is OK, as always with this artist, the style is his usual 80s electropop. If you like the genre, you may check it out. [Artist's website] ![]() |
