Poor quality midi demo (1/10)
It's just a poor quality midi demo. These are not even full tracks, just short excerpts. There is no mastering at all, there are different volume levels, analog noises. Samples sound terrible. Maybe melodies as such would deserve a better rating than 1/10, but in its current state this "album" is unlistenable. Stay away, people. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 format. |

Troy - "Best Music For Sex"
Strange techno / electronica (5/10)
A rather tiring effort from the Israel-based one-man act. The main problem that I have with this album is bad production / mastering. All the tracks sound like they have been recorded through a concrete wall. Very flat ugly sound. In terms of genre, the album is quite diverse, exploring various styles of electronic music with an experimental approach and a retro feel to it. Therefore, it is difficult to label it otherwise than by using general terms like techno, electronica, disco, sometimes even synthpop. Several tracks are quite entertaining and listenable, despite the terrible sound. Others are simply dull. You can check it out if you like exploring techno wilderness. Magnetar / Toltek Industries - "Liftoff"
Mixed feelings... (5/10)
I have mixed feelings after listening to this album. Some tracks are very good, some are rather boring for me. But overall, the album would earn maybe even 7 points, if not... two issues. Firstly, the sound volume variations. Some parts are so quiet, you must turn the volume up to the maximum. Then, you are attacked by sounds so loud that you cannot hear your own thoughts. So listening to this album requires constant struggle with a volume slider. It is a very stupid and annoying "feature" of some records, which on this one is pushed to extremes. Secondly, who in their right mind would name such song as no. 3 on this album "Elven Lore"? What these guitars, drums and dark mood have to do with elves? "Orcish pit" would be a much more appropriate name. If the dear author wants to hear music that fits a theme of elves, I will recommend albums of Enya or "Robin Hood" by Clannad. Of course I did not really lowered my rating because of the name of the track, but because of the sound volume problem. The album has been published under the Free Art License, which is more or less equivalent to the CC BY-SA license. SUPPORT INDEPENDENT ARTISTS

Calm electronic music with rock influences - very good! (8/10)
Calm electronic music with rock influences. Many tracks remind me of Moby, but I don't say they are just copies. Rather than that, both artists have similar approach to creating their music and they both use the same pieces of puzzle - just place them in a different way to compose a different picture. In brief: very good album for both electronica and rock fans. [mirror @ archive.org] | [Myspace]

Sullivan, Mark David - "Moje ogrody"
Not very good electronica (4/10)
The most of the tracks contain very cheap "plastic" ugly samples. Further, the melodies tend to be rather primitive, sometimes even balancing on the verge of disco polo (the most primitive type of the Polish disco music), like in "01 - Tanczac z gwiazdami". Plastic guitar samples present in most of the tracks do not help much and the result is light years from true rock music, despite of use of "guitar" riffs. The genres that fit best here are synthpop and space music, but this is a weak effort, not worth any attention - there's too much really good electronica around, even here on Jamendo. If you really must, check out "05 - Lustra" - this track is a little better than others. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. |

Sullivan, Mark David - "Bez przyszlosci"
Generic electronica (6/10)
Why generic? Because there's nothing particularly interesting about this recording. The melodies are pleasant, the artist knows how to compose a tune, but they just do not stay in your head - they are too simple and unoriginal. The arrangement is also very simple, with cheap "plastic" ugly samples. Overall, it's not bad, it's just... boring and pointless for me. As for the genre, it's a mix of space music and synthpop, so if you are dedicated fans of such music, you can check this out, it won't hurt. Apart from the quality of samples this is a decent work from the technical side, so it probably can be attractive to some people. [Artist's Myspace] ![]() |

The Motyw (Wojciech Wszelaki) - "Music For The People" [SP]
Simple synthpop (5/10)
Simple synthpop tunes. Professionally crafted and with nice melodies, vocals are in tune. Just too plain and easy for my liking. Simply too synthetic, I guess. But it's just me, check it out if you're a fan of the genre, it may be a 10-point album for you. [Artist's website] ![]() |

ajk - "Uratowac resztke mnie cz. 2 (akt 2: Czlowiek w swej wielkosci, Dezintegracja)"
Decent lyrics wrapped in bad music and delivered with weak voice (4/10)
Like I already wrote in the other review, this artist is not a bad lyricist. So it's a pity his lyrics are illustrated with such uninteresting or even ugly (a terrible track no. 1) music. He is also a rather lousy vocalist, singing - or in fact reciting - without passion and sometimes almost out-of-tune. To sum it up: waste of time. Maybe he should think about publishing poems instead? The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. |

Happiness Project - "Electric Games"
Mediocre synthpop (5/10)
Just mediocre synthpop. Track 1 (I want you) is quite nice, with industrial feeling and interesting melody. Track 10 (Night sky) is also not so bad. But the others are weak. They are dominated by a disco beat, very unoriginal. Moreover, singers' voices are weak and uninteresting (especially male voice - female's is slightly better). [Artist's Myspace] ![]() |

ajk - "Uratowac resztke mnie cz. 2 (akt 3: Bog, ...)"
Decent lyrics + primitive music (4/10)
The artist is quite a talented lyricist. So it's a pity he wraps his poetry in such ugly music. Maybe some musical ideas are interesting, but execution is very weak. The tracks nos. 2 & 3 are listenable electropop tunes, but no. 1 is just a terrible production failure, to the point of the singer being out-of-tune at places. On the track no. 4 the "happy" arrangement is equally clumsy. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. |

The Motyw (Wojciech Wszelaki) - "I Want Now" [SP]
Not catchy enough (5/10)
Pop should be catchy. Period. It is of course highly individual matter and for some people this piece could be great, but for me the melody is not catchy. The technical side is OK, as always with this artist, the style is his usual 80s electropop. If you like the genre, you may check it out. [Artist's website] ![]() |

The Motyw (Wojciech Wszelaki) - "Bonus track - Analog live" [SP]
Simple electronic disco; catchy tunes (5/10)
Simple electronic disco in the style of 80's. The quality of synthetic sounds is terrible, even for disco. However, the pieces are catchy; the first one has really infectious melody - Modern Talking would be jealous. It's not something I'd listen with pleasure, but if you're a fan of the genre, you can safely add 2 points to my rating. [Artist's website] ![]() |

ajk - "Uratowac resztke mnie cz. 2 (akt 4: A zostanie tylko milosc, Eksplozja)"
Unattractive electronic pop (3/10)
Unattractive electronic pop. The Polish lyrics are not bad, but melodies are boring, and what worse - do not fit the vocal lines. It sounds like two different tracks combined into one song. The album has been released on Jamendo and is available for downloading in mp3 or ogg format. |

The Motyw (Wojciech Wszelaki) - "Analog Live"
Simple, disco-based synthpop - not my cup of tea (4/10)
Primitive synthpop or - more precisely, electropop, as synthpop is usually based on rock music, use some guitars and rock expression, even if it is executed with electronic means. This album is definitely based on disco, dance, pop - the artist is very far from rock stylistics. And that's what I mean by "primitive": using the most simple, obvious and commercial-driven forms of artistic expression. Even in synthpop music there are works, which are highly original and thought provoking (Depeche Mode, for example). But not this time, ladies and gentlemen. Compared with this album, even Erasure or Pet Shop Boys write experimental music. Still, this is not a total flop. Many people love such "easy" music. That's why I described above what I mean by primitive - this isn't in any way primitive when it comes to production or performance. The artist knows how to write pop melodies, he has an acceptable voice with a nice timbre. And the issue of a chosen stylistics is just a matter of taste. If only such recordings populated charts in Poland, I'd be a happy man. Unfortunately, much worse acts gain a huge popularity. I would definitely prefer to hear this guy on radio instead of the highly successful Polish crap-pop band Feel. So, if you like such simple, "easy-listening" disco-based pop, check it out. By the way, here is a remastered and extended version of this album and some of the added tracks are much better. |

By the way, the album is very uneven, with some songs balancing on the verge of the "disco polo" genre (the most primitive style of the Polish disco music), e.g. "10 - Dwa serca". The others are much better, like opening "space-musical" instrumental track, energetic no. 5 with a catchy melody or no. 9 played on accordion - yet again a nice melody, almost killed by an ugly disco beat, though. |

dK - "Electroglamour And Infinite Sadness"
Zuppa Romana (6/10)
I've got mixed feelings after listening to this album. What are "mixed feelings"? There is this popular joke: "mixed feelings are when you're watching your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your new Ferrari". Well... Maybe. But for me it's also "hearing great music spoiled by a bad singer with a terrible English accent". Why on Earth so many people feel they have to sing in English, even if they lack skills? Somebody kidnapped your mother-in-law and threatens to throw her off a cliff, if you start singing in your native language? Ooops! Bad example. Anyhow... Everything else, apart from the vocalist's work, is at least good on this album. Great dark atmosphere, catchy melodies, very fine distorted guitars, nice electronic effects put in just right places. Just listen to these three instrumental pieces: 06, 08 & 12. Very interesting dark electronica, isn't it? Only maybe production is not up to par on several tracks, but not below my level of tolerance. And then... the singer. His voice is weak and from time to time he is almost out-of-tune. I could tolerate it, if this was his only problem. But the true disaster is his English accent. Why not to sing in Italian? Somebody told them only italo-disco is permitted in Italian? OK, the sound of English is great, it is an easy language to sing and write lyrics, but it makes sense only if the vocalist is able to learn a decent accent! Otherwise, just stick with your native language and the effect will be infinitely better. Because for now, it's just "Zuppa Romana". Of course, I can recommend this album to people who don't know English, or are unable to hear differences in English accents, because the instrumental part is very good. What's the genre? A dark synthpop / electro with industrial feel to it - a mix of Depeche Mode and Oomph! for me. By the way, speaking of Oomph!... Somehow they are not ashamed to sing in German. Instead of embarrassing themselves with "Änglisch"... Apart from Jamendo, you can also download it directly from the artist at Bandcamp for free or for a donation in a variety of formats, including lossless FLAC version. Strangely, this release is governed by a different CC license: ![]() |

Happiness Project - "Happy Live Bomb"
Mediocre synthpop (5/10)
Just a mediocre synthpop in live version. One track is great (3 I want you), with industrial feeling and interesting melody. But the others are weak. They are dominated by a disco beat, very unoriginal. Moreover, singers' voices are weak and uninteresting (especially male voice - female's is slightly better). As for the live act - it was really a stupid idea to fade out the crowd's applause. Interactions with the public are essential feature of a concert recording - adding to the atmosphere of the event. Pink Bazooka - "Kipon" [SP]
Generic electroclash - try harder next time (6/10)
It's generic electroclash with a decent melody, a nice punkish feel, but mediocre female vocals. She is so devoid of passion and energy that it sounds as if someone made her sing against her will. Totally out-of-place in such energetic song. If you like the genre, you might want to check it out anyhow, but don't expect too much. Try harder next time, guys. With a different vocalist - or maybe just pay her more? ;-) The album has been released by the 49manekinow.net netlabel and is available for downloading at archive.org in mp3 format. |
