Kirlian, Ran - "Selected Works I"

Really good ambient electronica (8/10)

Brief collection of Ran Kirlian music thru the years from 2000 to 2007. This first part collects mostly tribal-ambient side, including 2 previously unreleased tracks (Densho Barshi Huo 2, a demo from 2004 and Virical Storm from 2001) and a rare live version of Fade Out movement 5.
All tracks composed, performed, arranged and produced by Ran Kirlian at The Blue_Room between 2000 and 2007.
Sound sources includes synthesizers, samplers, voices, groove percussion, bells and treated found sounds.

This is a really good ambient electronica album. The artist managed to achieve the rare result. While it is a very orthodox recording (by which I mean it is almost devoid of a rhythm), it never gets dull. The artist knows perfectly how to keep a listener's attention focused. One just sits in excitement waiting for the sounds that are going to be revealed before him "around the corner".

The only drawback is that one can notice the tracks come from a wide period of time. E.g., volume levels are different, which can be easily noticed between tracks 07 & 08. In such calm and meditative music this is especially unpleasant. Of course, it does not spoil the fun and I can highly recommend this album to any fan of intelligent electronic music.
